The fawn response is new to me, but makes really good sense.

"The fawn response involves immediately moving to try to please a person to avoid any conflict. This is often a response developed in childhood trauma, where a parent or a significant authority figure is the abuser. Children go into a fawn-like response to attempt to avoid the abuse, which may be verbal, physical, or sexual, by being a pleaser. In other words, they preemptively attempt to appease the abuser by agreeing, answering what they know the parent wants to hear, or by ignoring their personal feelings and desires and do anything and everything to prevent the abuse. Playing the "what if", "should have", "could have" game will never make you feel good about yourself today. The fact is that sometimes what seems like good decisions have not so good outcomes and likewise sometimes what seems like bad decisions can have good outcomes. We are always making the best decision we can in the present moment.

Meet Tony

Educate and Empowerment. You are always good enough.

I was born and raised in the metropolitan Washington DC area having what I thought was a pretty average middle-class lifestyle. It wasn’t until my late teens that I understood my father’s addiction to alcohol and the damage it was doing to our family, especially the toll it was taking on my mother. It was a want to protect her that lead my life’s in helping roles. As a DC Firefighter, I was exposed to a world where hardship and suffering were a normal part of everyday life. Although it was a rewarding career, it usually meant that our help was limited and usually came downstream measure. A move to other side of the world would bring me into Addiction service. In Melbourne, Australia, I obtained a Post Graduate Degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Alcohol and other Drugs community service. Being an addiction therapy has been my passion for the last 10 years and has brought me to The Cabin and residential care where I became Program Lead for The Cabin’s Gaming Addiction program. My clients tell me they like my laid back approach and education and wisdom I bring to them.

Meet Tim

Helping people listen to their thinking

I grew up in a home that looked normal on the outside while all that time it was being ravaged by addiction on the inside. My own personal journey brought me to the world of therapy. Initially working as a person-centred therapist with the NHS in occupational health and assisting clients in areas of loss, bereavement, depression, and anxiety. I then decided to do an internship in an in-patient mental health facility and addiction therapy drew me. I have worked in facilities in the UK, Greece, and now Thailand, for the last 17 years. I am the clinical program director of "The Edge" youth program, while I also run the Family Therapy Program for The Cabin Chiang Mai Group. Passionate, honest and with a wealth of tools, I strive to help the struggling member and the family find their way through addiction.
