The Children's Sight Project will supply spectacles and provide comprehensive Optometric Eye Exams to the Children in the Chiang Mai Province in Northern Thailand. The Children’s Health Education Project has been added to our clinics, so as to deliver health advice to the students.

Day 22

Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

A team comprising Peter, Kent, Chris, and Gene conducted a comprehensive examination of several staff members today.

Furthermore, we delivered the final, completed spectacles to the students. This year, we provided 65 pairs of newly finished spectacles to three schools in Lamphun, which represents 9.8% of the students in the Lamphun district who require corrective spectacles. This figure aligns with our previous data on the need for spectacles in this specific cohort of students.

A comprehensive eye re-examination will be conducted on September 10th to assess the visual acuity of exceptional students with unique vision-related challenges.

Day 21

Today, Gene, Neil Kent, Chris,Carmine and Peter examined the remainder of the students from Chaloem Prakiat School, none of them required corrective lenses.

The Leo Club members (three) from Wichai Wittaya School also provided their assistance once again today ; Ms Luanruthai, Ms Karuna, Ms Nuengruethai & Ms Phantipicha.

This was the final day of examining the students at Chaloem Prakiat School, a commendable effort that has ultimately solidified our comprehensive optometric eye examination approach. This approach effectively eliminates any vision screening model that, regrettably, overlooks numerous vision-related issues.

Next week, the team will deliver completed spectacles to the students and conduct a comprehensive examination of several teaching staff members for any vision-related concerns.

Day 20 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

A team comprising Peter, Carmine, Neil, Al and Chris conducted examinations of students from Chaloem Prakiat grades 10 & 11.. A significant portion of these students have undergone previous eye examinations by the Project, with some experiencing multiple examinations over the years of our attendance at this institution.

Today, we examined 11 students and prescribed 2 pairs of prescription spectacles.

Day 19 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

Today, a team consisting of Neil, Peter, and Kent conducted comprehensive eye examinations on our final batch of students from Baan Paen Pittayakhom School.

In total, eight students underwent the examinations, with two requiring vision correction.

Baan Paen Piitayakhom School has been completed, and the final selection of new spectacles is scheduled to be delivered to the school within the next two weeks.

Next week, the team will continue assessing students from grades 10, 11, and 12 from Chaloem Prakiat School. We anticipate approximately 45 students to be evaluated.

Day 18 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

A team consisting of Peter, Carmine, Kent and Chris conducted examinations of students today.

A total of 24 students were examined, resulting in the prescription of 1 pair of spectacles to correct myopia.

To date, the team has conducted a comprehensive examination of 346 students, resulting in the provision of over 61 pairs of corrective eyewear (17.6%). We intend to publish a summary of this clinic’s findings in September.

We encourage you to explore the intriguing observations within this cohort of students. Specifically, we would like to ascertain which ethnic group exhibits the highest spectacle prescription rate and which group does not necessitate corrective eyewear.

Day 17 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

Today, the team of Neil, Peter, Chris, and Kent conducted eye examinations of seventh-grade students from Baan Paen Pittayakhom School. Subsequently, we returned to the school to distribute new spectacles to the seventh-grade students who had been examined two weeks prior.

The afternoon session involved examining students from Chaloem Prakiat School, who are in the tenth grade (8x).

On this day, we prescribed a total of 4 pairs of new spectacles, which were intended to correct myopia, hyperopia, and reading-related vision impairments.

Day 16 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

A team comprising Peter, Carmine, and Chris conducted examinations of students from Chaloem Prakiat and 9x 9th-grade students from the nearby School of Baan Paen Pittayakhom.

Today, a total of 15 students participated in examinations, with 6 students necessitating visual correction.

Subsequently, the team will take a few days of leave and will resume their duties on July 15th.

The beat goes on…………….real service to the community is achieved one student at a time!.

Day 15 : Chaloem Prakiat School, Lamphun

Today, the team of Neil, Peter, Chris, and Kent conducted examination being rechecking of 7x Grade 8 students from Baan Paen Pittayakhom School (these students were given spectacles last year).

Following a delightful lunch provided by the Chaloem Prakiat School Canteen, they further examined students from Grade 10 of Chaloem Prakiat School.

We also delivered new spectacles to some of the Chaloem Prakiat students.

In total, 20 students underwent a comprehensive optometric examination.Three (3) students were subsequently prescribed spectacles to correct their vision and achieve clear, comfortable single vision.

The team will return tomorrow ………….
