Spring is beautiful in Maryland, but seasonal allergies can make it hard for older adults...🌸

3 steps to help your loved one manage spring allergies:

1️⃣ Keep windows closed during high pollen days and change HVAC filters monthly
2️⃣ Review allergy medications with their doctor before starting anything new
3️⃣ Encourage outdoor activity during low-pollen times like early morning or late evening

Our caregivers support older adults through seasonal changes by providing medication reminders, monitoring symptoms, managing home environments for comfort, and accompanying your loved one on outdoor activities during safe pollen times.

Here are some simple ways to help your senior neighbor this month 🏑:

πŸ‘‹ Check in regularly – A quick knock on the door or phone call can make a big difference.

🍎 Offer to grab groceries – If you're heading to the store, ask if they need anything. Small errands can be overwhelming for older adults.

🌲 Help with yard work – Spring cleanup, mowing, or clearing walkways can prevent falls and keep their home safe.

πŸŽ† Share community event info – Let them know about local happenings like shows and festivals. They may even need a ride.

πŸ“¬ Notice changes – If you see mail piling up, lights staying on all night, or other unusual patterns, gently check in or contact their family.

Small acts of kindness create stronger communities. And if your neighbor needs more consistent support, professional home care can help them age in place safely and comfortably. πŸ’™

Happy Earth Day! Did you know that research shows that gardening provides real health benefits for aging adults?

It improves hand strength and fine motor skills, reduces depression and anxiety, supports cognitive function and memory, boosts vitamin D levels through sun exposure, and creates a sense of purpose and daily accomplishment.

How to help your loved one garden safely:

βœ… Start with container gardens or raised beds to reduce bending and strain
βœ… Use adaptive gardening tools with ergonomic grips for easier handling
βœ… Choose low-maintenance plants like herbs, succulents, or hearty flowers
βœ… Garden during cooler morning or evening hours to avoid heat exhaustion
βœ… Provide support for heavier tasks like watering, lifting soil, or moving pots

At Interim HealthCare of Annapolis, our caregivers encourage and support meaningful activities that bring joy and purpose to daily life. Whether that is gardening, cooking, crafts, or outdoor hobbies, we help older adults stay engaged in what they love.

Spring is the perfect time to get your loved one back outside and growing.

04/03/2026

For older adults aging at home, decluttering is not just about tidiness. It is about preventing falls, reducing confusion, and creating a living space that supports independence. 🌱 Here are three simple organizing tricks that make homes safer and easier to navigate for older adults:

1. Clear pathways for safer movement
Remove cords, throw rugs, stacks of mail, and extra furniture from walkways. Use cord covers along baseboards and secure or remove small rugs entirely.

2. Organize medications for clarity
Dispose of expired medications, consolidate prescriptions in one visible location, and use labeled pill organizers. Keep a current medication list on the fridge with dosage and timing.

3. Move everyday items to easy-to-reach zones
Store frequently used items between waist and shoulder height. Use lazy Susans in cabinets and pull-out shelves to eliminate bending and stretching.

Our caregivers assist with light housekeeping, mobility assistance, medication reminders, identifying safety hazards, and creating accessible living spaces that support aging in place.

Schedule a free in-home consultation and personalized care plan today.

Dementia changes communication, but it does not erase the person. The right caregiver knows how to reach them.

They find ways to connect, engage, and bring your loved one back to moments that feel like themselves again. They know that every activity is an opportunity to spark memory, encourage communication, and remind your loved one that they are still seen and valued.

Our team is trained to build meaningful engagement with every client. Our supervisors, like Lorrie, visit regularly to make sure care is not just happening, but actually working. Learn more by visiting the links in our bio! πŸ”—
