Mental healthcare is political. I am so tired of seeing people say that mental healthcare providers should be “apolitical”. Mental health issues are often rooted in systemic, economic, social, cultural, and environmental factors. To ignore these roots, to ignore the impacts of these factors on the mental health of human beings, particularly in a country with a history of systemic oppression of minority populations, is to act unethically in practice.

A trans support group facilitated through Lowcountry Pride is held at my office building every other Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 PM. The next meeting will be May 29. This office is and will continue to be a safe and affirming environment for all trans folks.
