March 26, Community Health Fair in Port Royal: A variety of complimentary and low cost wellness screenings will be offered at a community health fair on Thursday, March 26, from 9 a.m. – noon at Helena Place Senior Living in Port Royal. Blood pressure screenings, blood sugar checks, cholesterol and PSA tests, balance/fall assessments and more will be offered. Admission to the event is free and open to all ages. Beaufort Memorial Hospital, the Blood Alliance, ComForCare Home Care, Pruitt Health Hospice, Senior Health Associates, Eye Care One, Hospice Care of America, Alzheimer’s Family Services of Greater Beaufort and the Lending Room are just a few of the 25 health care providers that are offering their services! Twenty five raffle prizes will be given away at random to attendees. A complimentary brunch buffet will be provided until noon. Make sure to register for the gift card and gift basket giveaways. The first 50 people through the door will receive a healthy snack sack. Caregiver Support Group: Caring for a loved one on their last journey in life is one of the most difficult tasks one can face. Join Friends staff on Tuesdays for a free caregiver support and education session, "Rolling with Your Roles" at River Oaks Assisted Living, 1251 Lady's Island Drive in Port Royal, from 3-4pm. During these sessions, attendees will learn skills to manage the many demanding roles of caregiving, and how to maximize ability to function well in each role. Hope Haven Women's Support Group: The silence of childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault can lead to a lifetime of trauma and fear. Survivors of r**e and childhood sexual abuse can find hope and healing by finding their own words to express their experiences and by sharing and listening to experiences and insight with other survivors. Hope Haven of the Lowcountry offers adult support groups for women survivors of r**e and childhood sexual abuse. The groups meet weekly on Mondays, 6:30-8:00 PM, or bi-weekly on Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM. Hope Haven of the Lowcountry is located at 1212 Charles Street, Beaufort, SC. Hope Haven of the Lowcountry is offering a Men’s Support Group for adult men, 18 years old or older. The goal of the support group is for survivors to find hope and healing by sharing and listening to experiences with others who have similar experiences and to gain insight and support from each other. Meetings are kept confidential and are led by male facilitators. Survivors can come and talk and share, or you can come to just listen. The group will meet monthly on the first Tuesday of every month beginning March of 2015. Hope Haven of the Lowcountry is located at 1212 Charles Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. Heart Healthy Community: Beaufort Memorial Hospital will offer a special "Heart Healthy" event Saturday, February 14th from 8 a.m. to noon in front of the Beaufort Walmart. Everyone, insured or uninsured, are welcome to take advantage of these free and low cost screenings. Stop by CHiP, the Beaufort Memorial Hospital's Mobile Wellness Unit for FREE blood pressure screenings; FREE sugar checks, FREE electrocardiograms (ECG) to the first 26 visitors (must be 18 or older); FREE ECG interpretation and on-site physician consults; FREE heart failure education and nurse practitioner consults; $10 Cholesterol panels, FREE Cardiac Rehab information.

What is Healthy Connections Checkup?
It is a Medicaid limited benefit program that emphasizes the importance of preventive health care and a more holistic approach to family planning service.

Newly Covered Services (as of August 1, 2014) include:
►Comprehensive Physical Exam (once every 2 years)
►Preventive Health Screenings – including mammograms and colonoscopies (depending on your age)
►Referrals

Who is Eligible?
Men and women of all ages in South Carolina whose annual family income does not exceed 194 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

DHEC helps uninsured smokers quit with free ni****ne replacement therapy: South Carolina DHEC now offers FREE ni****ne replacement therapy such as gum, lozenges or patches to smokers who do not have health insurance. Just call the SC DHEC To***co Quitline at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) to be connected with a trained quit coach. All South Carolinians, insured or uninsured, can call the Quitline and receive up to 5 free sessions with a quit coach. Pregnant to***co users can get up to 10 free sessions. Those who do not have insurance will be able to receive free ni****ne replacement therapy.

Have you seen a big colorful van with Jonathan Green artwork around town? That’s “CHiP”! Wherever you see CHiP you can stop in and get your blood pressure and blood sugar checked for FREE! For just $10 you can get a lipid profile blood test (cholesterol) and have the results mailed to your home to share with your health provider. When a Nurse Practitioner is present, take advantage of FREE clinical breast exams, prostate exams and skin cancer checks.
