Anniversary of dad’s passing is today. This picture makes me smile. My dad and my husband had an amazing relationship. They loved each other so much. Seeing my husband also miss my dad today reminds me… my dad really was the best guy. People all around me who arent even his own kids miss him almost as hard as I do. That is a blessed feeling though tinged with sadness. My dad, Bassem. No one like him. Gone far too soon. Love to anyone going through the ebbs and flows of grief… you are not alone. And, neither am I.

Another great Externship group! We finished our final round. The tremendous impact these therapists had on the families they worked with over the last couple of months is inspiring. 23 years of FFT and I’m still in awe of the model and the people we train, the families we serve. I feel so lucky to have met and worked with these incredibly talented people!

Trauma doesn’t always stay in the past, sometimes it lives quietly in the nervous system, showing up as anxiety, triggers, or emotional overwhelm. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy approach designed to help the brain safely process and release unresolved traumatic memories.

Through guided bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), EMDR helps the brain “re-file” distressing experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional charge. Instead of reliving the trauma, the brain learns to process it in a healthier way.

Trauma-informed care matters because healing isn’t about “just moving on.” It’s about creating safety, understanding how the nervous system responds to trauma, and giving the brain the support it needs to finally process what it couldn’t before.

Here at MTC, our professionals are trained in multiple trauma-informed approaches including EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and somatic-based therapies, allowing us to tailor care to each individual’s healing journey.
