Carolyn Martienssen

Carolyn Martienssen, 80, of West Hazleton, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 24, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg following a brief illness.Born on August 29, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Carolyn began life with humble beginnings, spending part of her childhood in an orphanage. An experience that she carried with her throughout her life and fondly shared.Carolyn dedicated much of her life to protecting the environment and improving the Hazleton area she called home. She worked hard to advocate for the cleanup of toxic waste sites and former industrial areas, while encouraging the transformation of unused land into spaces that could be enjoyed by the community for generations to come. She believed people deserved clean, safe, and welcoming places to live. She also spent many years searching for her biological parents, a journey that reflected her hope, persistence, and desire to understand her roots. Although she built her life in Hazleton, Philadelphia always remained close to her heart, and she often spoke of one day returning there.Carolyn had a love for computers and enjoyed creating websites, and enjoyed canvas sewing art. She was also known for her love of her Oscar fish, earning herself the nickname “Oscette”.She is survived by her husband, Charles Martienssen; her daughter, Cynthia Kantner; her son, Conrad Depuy; and 15 cherished grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends, neighbors, and others whose lives she touched over the years. In accordance with her wishes, Carolyn will be cremated and no formal services will be held. A private memorial for family and friends will take place at a future date.Carolyn will be remembered for her caring heart, determined spirit, and the many ways she tried to make the world around her better. After a lifelong search for where she came from, may she now be peacefully reunited with the parents she longed to know.

Queen Elizabeth Jackson

Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Jackson, formerly of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Newark, New Jersey, and Whitehall, Pennsylvania, entered eternal rest on April 17, 2026.

She was born on May 19, 1940, to Elizabeth Joyner and Vernon Joyner. As a young child, she moved with her parents from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to Newark, New Jersey, where she spent her formative years and built the foundation of her life. It was in Newark that she met her beloved husband, Murphy Jackson (now deceased), and together they began a life rooted in love, family, and resilience that carried on through generations. She later made Whitehall, Pennsylvania, her home.

Queen Elizabeth Jackson was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished family matriarch. She was known for her strength, honesty, wisdom, and unconditional love. While she was direct and firm in her words, she was equally known for her nurturing spirit, expressed through her guidance, care, and unwavering devotion to her family.

Her educational journey began with earning her GED. She later attended Essex County College, where she studied social work, reflecting her compassion and natural desire to serve others. She worked as a bus aide with The ARC, where she cared for children and supported families with patience, dedication, and kindness.

Queen Elizabeth Jackson was a woman of deep faith who loved the Lord and lived a life grounded in spiritual conviction. Early in her Christian journey, she was under the leadership of Prophet Mosley. She later became a member of Reach the Unreachable Deliverance Ministry under Pastor Peggy Farrington, where she continued to grow spiritually. Even when she was no longer able to attend church in person, she remained connected through prayer, worship, and the Word of God. She often declared, “Heaven is my home,” a reflection of the hope that anchored her life.

She found strength and comfort in gospel music that ministered to her spirit, including “I Do Worship” by John P. Kee, “Don’t Cry” by Kirk Franklin, “For Every Mountain” by Kurt Carr, and “Miracle” and “None Like You” by Marvin Sapp. These songs carried her through different seasons of life and reflected her deep love for worship.

She enjoyed life’s simple joys, including going out to eat, shopping, and peaceful moments in her daily routine. She especially loved cooking for her family, preparing meals that reflected her love and created lasting memories. She also cherished her morning tea from Dunkin’, always extra hot and very sweet, a small daily comfort she looked forward to.

She shared a deep and unbreakable bond with her brother, Vernon Joyner, Jr., lovingly known as “Uncle Bruh,” a relationship built on lifelong loyalty, respect, and family devotion.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Sharon Joyner of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, and Jackie Jackson of East Orange, New Jersey; her brother, Vernon Joyner, Jr. of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Loudine Burns, Marcelus Joyner, Chanele Wainwright, Thomas Lewis, Quamiir Jackson, and Sandra James; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Myasiah, Makiah, and others; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murphy Jackson, her son, Murphy Jackson Jr., and her daughter, Tammy Joyner.

Her life was a testimony of faith, strength, and enduring love. Though her passing leaves a deep void, her family finds comfort in knowing she has transitioned from earthly labor into eternal peace. It is believed she has heard the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

She will be deeply missed, and forever loved.

“Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23

Homegoing services will take place on Monday April 27th, 2026 in the Funeral Home. The viewing will take place from 10 am- 11 am, when the service begins. Burial will follow services at Greenwood Cemetery in Allentown.

This morning our team served at the Historic Second Baptist Church of Bethlehem, in celebration of the life of Deacon Oren Buie. Deac worked hard, and he put in work to be a wonderful husband of over 60 years, a dedicated father and grandfather, in his vocations, as deacon in the Lords church and an all around man of God. Grateful for the families trust in us. Bishop Paul spoke today and echoed the words of John the Revelator, found in Revelation 14.

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.”

I agree. Well done Deac.
