Direct Support Professional: Provides direct support services to Individuals with Intellectual
Disabilities. Maintain an environment that is safe, healthy, and comfortable for all the individuals that we serve.
A Direct Support Professional is responsible for the following:
• Direct Support Professionals will work with adult individuals with Intellectual disabilities
in community settings and shall report directly to Program Specialist(s).
• Assists in the coordination and transportation of Individuals to and from their residence,
to and from various work or contract assignments throughout the day.
• Supervises guides, directs, and protects the Individuals.
• Administer and documents all medications scheduled during the shift.
• Aids with activities of daily life (i.e. hygiene, toileting, grooming, dressing, meal
preparation, laundry household chores, etc.).
• Understands and participates in developing and implementing individual treatment plan
for each Individual.
• Writes detailed summaries of progress made towards the Individual’s outcomes in
Progress Notes and submits them every 3 months.
• Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
• Provides shift report and holiday coverage on a rotating basis.
• Participates in on-going training to learn various behavior management methods and
techniques. Remains up to date and in compliance with required trainings.
• Cooperates with management, Program Specialist(s), other staff, and the Office of
Developmental Programs (or their designee) in all inspections and investigations.
• Evacuating and taking care of Individuals in emergency situations.
Direct Support Professional qualifications:
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Valid driver’s license.
• High School diploma, G.E.D. or higher.
• One-year experience or more working with Individuals with intellectual and
developmental disabilities or working in community based residential programs.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
