This summer marks a decade of trusted health conversations with the Latino community! Dr. Leonardo Claros, Bariatric Surgeon at St. Luke’s, has hosted over 450 “Hablando con su Doctor” episodes on La Mega (101.7 FM & 92.9 FM), every Saturday at 7:30 am. From cardiology to community health, Dr. Claros and his guests have become a vital voice, bringing clarity, connection, and care to Spanish-speaking listeners. “Being recognized as the Spanish voice, the link to our Latino community for trusted health care wisdom, is truly an honor,” says Dr. Claros. Star Community Health was proud to support the Refugee Community Center in Allentown last Friday at their Refugee Festival, celebrating the many cultures that have found a home in the Lehigh Valley. The Refugee Community Center serves as a safe space where new refugee and asylum-seeking neighbors can find hospitality, connection and friendship. Their work focuses on adult English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) education, intentional children’s programming, advocacy and community support.

At Star Community Health, we serve a diverse patient population and welcome everyone with open arms. We ensure that every patient feels comfortable and receives care in the language they prefer.

At Star Community Health, we understand the importance of education and how it can impact long-term health. Higher education opens doors to greater job opportunities, which can lead to improved health outcomes and a better quality of life.

This year, we proudly recognized five seniors from the Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, and Phillipsburg area school districts with scholarships for their outstanding academic achievements, extracurricular involvement, and commitment to pursuing higher education. We believe in investing in the youth of our community, and we’re confident these scholarships will help set them on the path to success.

🎓 Kimberly Kinara who graduated from Easton High School and will attend Pennsylvania State University to study Nursing.
🎓 Pantelis Georgalas who graduated from Liberty High School and will attend St. Joseph’s University in the six-year Pharmaceutical program.
🎓 Matthew Scherer who graduated from Phillipsburg High School and will attend Rutgers University to study Biology.
🎓 Hannah Heidemann who graduated from Freedom High School and will attend Pennsylvania State University to study Kinesiology.
🎓 Martina Ferriolo who graduated from Dieruff High School and will attend Cedar Crest College to study Nursing.

☀️ Heat wave safety for kids

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heat illness. Keep children safe with these tips:
💧 Hydration
• Encourage water before, during and after activity
• Water is best for most play under an hour
• Avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks

🧢 Additional tips
• Let kids adjust to the heat gradually
• Dress in light, loose clothing
• Take breaks in the shade
• Watch for signs of heat illness: excessive sweating, dizziness or nausea

Remind kids to drink and rest. Staying cool keeps playtime safe.

We are to once again offer the Summer Meals* program in Allentown and Quakertown. Thanks to generous support and partnership from Hatzel & Buehler, Star Community Health, Penn Community Bank, and Free Fall Action Sports, we can ensure that every child in need in these communities has access to nutritious meals during the summer months.

📍In Allentown, free grab-and-go meals can be picked up at Star Community Health – Sigal Center on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays beginning at 11:30 am from June 17 – August 21, 2025.

📍In Quakertown, meals are served Monday - Friday, 12 - 2 pm (except for July 4th), at Free Fall Action Sports Center from June 9 – August 22, 2025.

*Program offered by St. Luke’s University Health Network to support students eligible for free and reduced meals during the academic year.
