The news article introducing the local public to incubators, which had been used for about 6 months at St.Lukes when this was published.

Does anyone remember when these were implemented for use? Any guesses to what year?

It’s quite fascinating to look at the oxygen tanks and arm holes and how they compare to days technology.

Here is the heartfelt story about the remarkable alumna, Millidene McFadden, from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing (SON) Class of 1948. Millidene dedicated her life to nursing and made a significant impact on the Pleasant Valley School District, where she served as a school nurse practitioner for 21 years until her retirement in 1995.

Millidene McFadden was not just an ordinary nurse; her dedication and devotion to her career were unmatched. She stood out among her peers, always ready to make a difference when the opportunity arose. One notable incident that etched her name in the history of Pleasant Valley was when she saved a student's life using the Heimlich maneuver, a technique that was just starting to gain recognition at the time.

Her son has been tirelessly working for the past ten years to get his mother inducted into the Pleasant Valley Hall of Fame, only to receive rejection letters. Recently, he reached out to share a news story about his mother and the ongoing petition to recognize her contributions. You can read more about it here: https://www.brctv13.com/news/local-news/30426-petition-circling-to-recognize-a-former-pleasant-valley-school-nurse.

As we get ready to celebrate Nurse Week 2025 under the theme "Nurses Making a Difference," it is the perfect time to honor Millidene McFadden's legacy. Her story exemplifies the profound impact that nurses can have on their communities, and recognizing her contributions would be a fitting tribute to the countless nurses who dedicate their lives to making a difference every day.

In light of her extraordinary service and the profound impact she had on the community, I feel it is time we rally together to support a SON grad and her son's efforts. I ask that you consider sharing this story on your social media platforms, share with every nurse you know so they can support the cause and spread this story to help Millidene McFadden receive the recognition she truly deserves.

Thank you for your time and support. Let's honor Millidene's legacy and ensure her contributions are remembered and celebrated.
