Yesterday, our Utah Health Scholars students presented at the Southern Utah University Festival of Excellence to showcase their rigorous research and community-impact projects.

From analyzing social determinants of health to exploring innovative predictors for clinical measurements, these students are not just studying healthcare; they are actively contributing to its future.

Check out some of the projects featured this year:

- Interprofessional Education of Pre-Healthcare Undergraduates at SUU: A deep dive into how collaborative education models shape the readiness of future providers.

- Assessment of Carotenoid Level Variability in Southwestern Utahns: An insightful correlation analysis looking at nutrition and social determinants of health through the lens of local data.

- Assessment of the Body Roundness Index (BRI) as a Predictor of Visceral Fat: A sex-based analysis evaluating modern alternatives to traditional health metrics like BMI.

Join our upcoming Speaker Series featuring Megan Vernon, CMHC, for a four-part virtual training on DBT Strategies for the Treatment of Substance Use Disorders.

This series will take place on May 1, 8, 15, and 22 from 12:00–1:00 PM MDT. Drawing on more than a decade of clinical experience, Megan Vernon, Chief Clinical Officer at New Roads Behavioral Health and a certified EMDR trainer, will provide an overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) along with practical, real-world strategies for treating substance use disorders. Her expertise in trauma-focused care and co-occurring conditions offers valuable insight for professionals working in behavioral health.

This training is made possible in part through support from the Utah Center for Rural Health Psychostimulant Grant.
