Fruits and vegetables have all the protein we need to build healthy strong muscles. The actin and myosin proteins in our muscles are actually built from amino acids by our liver.
Large protein molecules found in grains and legumes and nuts, and especially animal products, can be challenging for our digestive system to break down and use. The proteins in fruits and vegetables are easy to break down and assimilate. Starchy vegetables and fruits and leafy greens are especially helpful at building muscle.
If this is hard to believe, think of some of the largest mammals on our planet, like elephants and gorillas that eat nothing but plants.
For a long time, it was thought that our bodies did not store excess protein, but a German scientist, Luthar Wendt, blew that theory out of the water when he documented stored protein in human tissues. His work showed cross sections of human tissue with protein stores between muscle fiber and connective tissues. This means that large amounts of protein will add bulk to our tissues, but not necessarily be integrated into our muscle tissue.
Processed, concentrated proteins added to foods to make them higher in protein are especially problematic. Like processed sugars and fats, proteins when removed from their natural state are not the same and are difficult for our body to process. They can overwhelmed the kidneys and make the body acidic contributing to a host of health problems including kidney stones, gout, inflammation, poor circulation and lymph congestion.
I have been eating a diet, consisting, mostly (80%) fruit and vegetables for nearly 9 years now. I have a eradicated all of my chronic health problems and continue to look and feel better and better.
We can get all the protein we need to build healthy strong muscles from fruits and vegetables while looking and feeling out best!
