Keratosis pilaris is a common, harmless skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps, often on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks or buttocks. These tiny bumps or pimples are dead skin cells (keratin) plugging hair follicles. To treat keratosis pilaris, regularly exfoliate and moisturize with products that have salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells and unclog hair follicles.
