Denver Broncos Game Ball Delivery! When a patient who was experiencing homelessness arrived at CommonSpirit St. Anthony Summit Hospital in Frisco a few months ago, nurse Karen Dierks had no idea that it would lead her on a treasure hunt - not to mention a shout-out from the Broncos. Today a new Colorado law takes effect that prohibits the use of a handheld phone for any purpose while driving. Texting and driving is already illegal for drivers of all ages in Colorado, and the new law means adult drivers must now use a hands-free device to make phone calls or use GPS. The use of hands-free accessories like Bluetooth headsets, Apple CarPlay and dashboard mounts is permitted. Drivers younger than 18 are prohibited from using a cellphone for any purpose and can be fined and/or risk losing their license. As we gather with friends and family to celebrate the new year, remember that impaired driving costs lives. One out of every three traffic deaths involves an impaired driver – and every one of those deaths is entirely preventable.

The science is clear – you’re a different driver under the influence. Your reaction time slows, and your peripheral vision is reduced. If you drink, always plan a safe ride home. Whatever ride-sharing service you prefer, make sure to request a sober ride before driving impaired, or designate a driver to get home safe. Here's to a safe, happy and healthy new year.

Kate Deaver: Cancer fighter, survivor, inspirer.

Kate's cancer journey began at age 19. Unexpectedly confronted with her own mortality, she decided to channel her anger into living the very best life she could, every single day. She's still doing it, all these years later.

We recently teamed up with our Denver Broncos partners to honor Kate and other cancer warriors during the Fight Like a Bronco game at Empower Field at Mile High.

"I'm so grateful to be a part of this organization and to give back to other people who are facing journeys like I'm on," said Kate, who is the Chief Philanthropy Officer at CommonSpirit Health's Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation.

On Monday we provided a tour of CommonSpirit Mercy Hospital to Colorado state Sen. Cleave Simpson and Colorado Representative-elect Katie Stewart. Our Flight For Life Colorado team also spent quality time with both elected officials, sharing the critical, life-saving work they do in the Four Corners region. One of the things they discussed was how Flight for Life's search and rescue and transport operations are a lifeline to so many in our communities. Mercy Hospital CEO Josh Neff provided an educational tour of the hospital, where Sen. Simpson and Representative-elect Stewart got to meet many of our incredible caregivers. Thank you, Cleave Simpson Colorado State Senator District 6 and Representative-elect Stewart, for your visit and your service to communities in Southwest Colorado!
