Does your cat have Arthritis Pain? Let's talk about Solensia.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a complex condition involving inflammation and degeneration of one or more joints. It is sometimes referred to as degenerative joint disease (DJD). Cats with OA experience pain and inflammation in various joints that interfere with daily activities.
What are the Clinical Signs of Arthritis?
Cats can exhibit many different signs when they have OA, and they do not necessarily demonstrate all the same signs all the time. The most common signs cat owners may notice include:
Difficulty getting up and down
Walking stiffly
Lameness in one or more legs
Reluctance to go up or down steps
Reluctance to jump up or down
Reluctance to play
Stiff, swollen, or sore joints
Reluctance to be touched on some parts of the body
Unexpected aggression toward other cats or humans
Hiding more than usual
House soiling (if a cat has difficulty getting in and out of the litter box)
Poor coat condition (because self-grooming becomes difficult)
How is Arthritis Treated?
Unfortunately, there is no magic bullet for treating OA. Once OA is in place, the goal is to manage rather than treat it because OA cannot be cured. OA is a very complex disease, so managing it is complex because the best results come from combining multiple modalities.
Solensia is an option to manage pain.
Solensia is the once-monthly monoclonal antibody therapy, for the control of feline osteoarthritis (OA) pain, administered by a veterinarian. 77% of cat owners reported improvement in signs of pain when their cats were treated monthly with Solensia in a 3-month study. Controls the pain of OA in cats, helping to improve their mobility, comfort and well-being.
There is support for you and your feline in managing Arthritis pain and we are here to help you. Give us a call today to talk to one of our Doctors about Solensia.
Today we celebrate blind dogs and all the amazing things they can still do!

Wildfires often occur with little notice, which can make preparation a challenge. If you live in a wildfire-prone area, it’s important to create a safety plan for the two-legged and four-legged members of your family. You may only have minimal advance notice about evacuations, so planning in advance could be the difference between a successful evacuation and leaving necessary items behind.
Natural disasters are often accompanied by evacuations. Even if you are able to remain in your home, you may be cut off from public services for several days. Having a “Go Bag,” containing supplies for a several-day period, can help you be prepared to go without emergency services during a disaster.
If your pet experiences anxiety over the 4th of July holiday, with fireworks and loud noises, you may want to request anti-anxiety medication to help keep them relaxed. Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible to ensure your request is processed before the festivities begin! Thank you 🐾
So, your veterinarian suggested bringing a p**p sample to your pet's visit. Gross, right? While it may be off-putting to transport a smelly sample to the vet office, it's really important for everyone's health that we check it out! You and your pet could be living with potentially harmful parasites, and spreading them to others.

Happy Mother’s Day! ❤️ Today we appreciate all mothers for the joy and love they spread on a daily basis!
May 10th is German Shepherd Day! In late 1800s Germany, herdsmen needed a dog that could take command of large flocks of sheep, preventing the sheep from wandering into fields, driving them from one area to another, protecting them from marauders, and acting as a sort of moving fence by constantly patrolling along the flock's perimeter.

Salmonella bacteria can be spread in the f***s of apparently healthy hedgehogs. Humans are susceptible to salmonellosis, with signs of infection ranging from mild to life-threatening.
Avoid snuggling or kissing your pet hedgehog, and wash your hands carefully (with soap and water) after handling your hedgehog and their enclosure or bedding.
Salmonellosis is an especially risky condition in young children and immunocompromised individuals, so hedgehogs are not recommended as children’s pets.
Hedgehogs are nocturnal, meaning that they sleep much of the day. Therefore, it’s important to place your hedgehog’s enclosure in a quiet, out- of-the-way location.
If you love air conditioning or your home is cool and drafty during the winter months, your hedgehog will need a supplemental heat source to remain happy and healthy.
Hedgehogs are small animals with big personalities! In addition to having big personalities, however, these small animals have big care requirements over their three- to five-year life spans.
Preventing illness in your hedgehog requires careful attention to their diet and environment, combined with regular veterinary care.
Additionally, female hedgehogs should be spayed to prevent potentially fatal uterine cancer.
Rats are active pets; therefore, they need space to exercise and play. Rats also do best when housed with other rats.
Their ideal home is a large wire cage; enclosures with glass or plastic walls can limit ventilation and increase the risk of respiratory issues.
Cover the wire grate at the bottom of the cage with soft bedding to reduce foot irritation.
Rats can be excellent pets for a wide variety of families. In addition to being curious, affectionate and highly intelligent, rats are relatively “low maintenance” when compared to other exotic pets.
However, low maintenance doesn’t mean no maintenance. Providing the best possible care for your rat means meeting your rat’s needs at home and having your rat examined by a veterinarian at least once yearly for the duration of their two- to three-year life span.
After surgery, sometimes the patients get a little bit of extra snuggles ❤️ (and when we say sometimes, we mean all the time!)
