After retiring from clinical dental hygiene in June this year, I've spent some time thinking about how I can pass on the knowledge I've acquired to help other hygienists grow in their careers.

I'm developing a webinar where I share the strategies I used as a hygienist to launch and grow my business, which are guaranteed to bring you hundreds of clients and referrals!! And not just any type of client, but clients you love to see, and many times, will develop a friendship with. (I miss all my patients so muchhh 💔)

Another trip, another beach! ⛱️
It was my baby girls first swim in the ocean at 11 months old 🎀💝 shes almost 1! 🎂 🥳 it was also our first time in the Dominican Republic!! So beautiful 😍

Now lets talk teeth: I'm back and ready to get your smiles ready for Spring and Summer! Ill be answering all msgs from when I was away today and tomorrow, but if for some reason you don't hear back from me pls help this mama out and reach out.😅

Teeth Goals will be turning 4 years old in 2024, and as we end another year, I can't help but think of how far we've come as a business. The year was 2019, I was on my mat leave with my son, living in a 2 bedroom (more like 1.5 beds) apartment downtown Ottawa, without a car, needing to book a teeth cleaning appointment. I dreaded the thought of packing up baby, baby's cargo, and walking to the dentist's office (hoping his nap and eating schedule worked out so I could have an uninterrupted teeth cleaning appointment) only to have him cry as soon as I sat on the hygienist's chair. I kept wishing a hygienist would come to me, to my apt, but not just any hygienist - one that understood the unpredictableness and lonely life of a new mom, who wouldn't mind stopping halfway thru the cleaning if needed for me to console/nurse baby if he needed me. That's when the idea of mobile dental hygiene came to mind!

Balancing family life, especially with a little one, while planning a business was hard, as you can imagine. After everyone was asleep and the house was quiet, I took courses, I sent emails, I scheduled meetings, I read and read some more. I eventually moved into a home where I could accommodate my business' needs, bought my sister's old car, and finally opened doors in October 2020. Within a matter of 2 weeks, I was booked up for months! I quit my full-time job, and I am still here! Writing this on New Years Eve, at night when the house is quiet.

My vision came true exactly as I dreamed it, and all of this was possible because of you - I want to say thank YOU for your referrals, your reviews, your trust, your patience. Many of you have been with me from the very beginning and for this I'm so grateful. 🫶

I hope I can continue to help you achieve excellence in oral health through evidence based dental hygiene care and bring lots of bright smiles in 2024 for you and your family.
There is so much happening in 2024 for Teeth Goals and I cannot wait to share them all with you!

Who'll be snacking on all the chocolates during the holidays? 🍫 🍬
Here are some tips on how to enjoy your fave treats while keeping your teeth healthy! 🦷🎅

Anytime you eat or drink something that's sugary or acidic you have a 20 min acid attack in your mouth yall.
This acid erodes your enamel and eventually makes a hole on your tooth! And this is a cavity.

Think about how many times acid needs to form on your teeth to create a hole. The more exposure, the more the erosion I.e. frequency is worse than quantity! A little candy here = 20 mins
Another candy there = 20 mins
At the end of the day, how many hours were your teeth sitting in acid?

Combat this by having your candy in one sitting, and then drinking plain water afterwards. Bonus points if you chew on xylitol mints/gums immediately afterwards to stimulate saliva flow and take away the acidity right away. This way, instead of 20 mins, you'll maybe only have 5 mins of acid attack🫶
Note: xylitol is toxic to dogs, keep it away from them!!

Other tips:
- for the kiddos, apple slices and cheese strings are easy teeth cleansing snacks they can have with their treats;
- have a bottle of plain water with you and sip on it throughout the day.

There's a reason dental hygienists learn Research Methodologies in the Dental Hygiene program: we need to be able to read and understand and explain research to patients. We're bombarded on a daily basis with dental related marketing and patients come to us as the experts on what's legit and whats not!

Explaining the Teeth Goals logo to a patient today, I pointed out the reason there's a heart on a sparkling clean tooth.
Oral health is directly linked to heart health.
Oral health = overall health

A quick search on pubMed (one of the "googles" in the scientific/medical world) on the link between dental plaque and inflammation to heart disease, and a ton of papers show up. Swipe to read a few.
(Fun fact: I taught dental hygiene students how to read and critique research articles! 📚 remember guys? I have many students followers 😄🫶)

Remember:
Bleeding gums = inflammation.
Bleeding gums is treated and managed at dental hygiene appointments.

Inflammation kills.

Anddd that's a wrap!

Feeling so thankful for such an amazing experience and for the opportunity to have met so many incredible couples and exhibitors at the
this past weekend! I'm talking meeting the son of my first ever boss in the dental field here in Ottawa when I was a brand new grad - a dentist in his 80s now! Plus getting to know so many talented and hard working professionals here in our city! PLUS all the sweet couples who were so supportive and friendly, we really got the best people!

☆ I graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor in Dental Hygiene, and have been a dental hygienist since 2008. 📚

☆I successfully passed both the Canadian and American national dental hygiene exams, and am licensed to work in both countries. 🤓

☆ I completed and passed the necessary requirements and courses to attain "independent dental hygienist" status in the province of Ontario which allows me to practice dental hygiene independently of a dentist. 😷

☆ Besides clinical practice, I have experience working in the field of research, collaborating with the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association on making evidence based dental hygiene recommendations to hygienists and the public. I also published a scientific paper on the Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene! 💃
