Over 4 years later, we are re-posting because Jordan Rodgers, LPC-Associate, supervised by Courtney King, LPC-S, and Kelly Pullen, LPC-S, RPT, is trained in ETT!!!

This is not meant to say one is above the other but to help people that are familiar with EMDR (a much more established and widely used therapy tool) to note some of the ways ETT is different. I personally have seen dramatic improvements with both modalities and highly recommend both. ETT is the one I have work with extensively in both my own personal therapy as well professionally with my own clients.
-
Ten Differences Between EMDR and MDEM:
-
Multidimensional Eye Movement (MDEM) is an advanced form of eye movement therapy that is unlike Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and has the capacity to eliminate trauma, emotional distress, and physical pain within minutes. MDEM differed from EMDR in the following ways:
-
The specific wavelengths (color) of reflective light used to enter the eyes during eye fixation and eye movement is an important factor in MDEM and not in EMDR.
-
The number of directions of eye movement used for MDEM are almost infinite but are very limited in EMDR
-
Fixed eye positions play a prominent role in MDEM and are not used in EMDR.
-
Eye position or eye movements are based upon each person’s “eye can pathways” in MDEM, bu not in EMDR.
-
The speed of eye movement in MDEM is generally much slower (smooth pursuit eye movement) than EMDR (saccadic eye movement).
-
Unilateral visual stimulation is often the focus of eye position or eye movement in MDEM, instead of the dual focus of EMDR.
-
MDEM utilizes visual focus points in a three dimensional visual field as compared to a two dimensional field in EMDR.
-
MDEM provides rapid access to relevant implicit memory by using specific eye movement associated with relevant procedural memory, whereas EMDR usually does not.
-
Attachment based interpersonal processes are used in MDEM and are not a focus of the EMDR protocol.
-
The massive amount of repetitions typically used in EMDR are not necessary in MDEM because it individualizes eye movement directions that can result in quicker outcomes.

INTRODUCING…Jordan Rodgers MS, LPC-Associate, supervised by Courtney King, MA, LPC-S, and Kelly Pullen MA, LPC-S, RPT!!!

We are highlighting one of Jordan’s specialties, Play Therapy. “Play therapy is often misunderstood. Play seems FUN, and while it can be fun, it can also be utilized as a way for children to express themselves and process the world around them. If you find that your child may be struggling with processing a traumatic experience, anxiety, behavioral issues, self-regulation, screen time obsession, self-esteem, attachment issues, or family dynamic changes, play therapy can be an incredibly helpful tool.” - Jordan

Be mindful of the “prosperity gospel” narrative of mental health.

The internet has felt a little overwhelming with how therapists and clients are presenting therapy and mental health.

Awareness and being open about our mental health struggles and experiences can be an very powerful and positive thing when done in the appropriate context. The more we are able to strengthen our mental health and well-being, the more it will become a natural part of our day to day lives we can model and pass on to those around us ——rather than something we feel the need to preach at others.
