“Someone else’s emergency is not automatically your emergency” is a reminder about boundaries, responsibility, and emotional regulation.

Here’s why it matters:

1. You didn’t create the problem
If you didn’t cause the situation, you’re not responsible for fixing it—especially at the cost of your own well-being. Taking ownership of other people’s crises can lead to burnout and resentment.

2. Urgency doesn’t equal priority
Just because something feels urgent to someone else doesn’t mean it should override your plans, values, or limits. Not everything needs an immediate response from you.

3. It encourages accountability
When you constantly rescue people, you unintentionally teach them to rely on you instead of solving their own problems. Allowing others to handle their own emergencies builds independence and growth.

4. Emotional regulation is a personal skill
Someone else’s panic doesn’t mean you need to panic. Staying calm and grounded allows you to respond thoughtfully—or choose not to respond at all.

5. Boundaries protect relationships
Healthy boundaries prevent resentment and exhaustion. Helping from a place of choice—not obligation—leads to more genuine support and healthier connections.

6. You are allowed to say no
Compassion doesn’t require self-sacrifice. You can care without carrying the weight of someone else’s crisis.

In short:
You can offer support without absorbing the stress, help without fixing, and care without abandoning yourself.

If you are a service provider in health care, please remember: It is our job to create space to heal, it is not our job to solve all of the problems in the world.

As a LMT of almost 8 years, It is crucial to take care of your own mental health. ❤️ 🙏🏻
