Did you know that dads can experience depression and other mental health conditions both before and after the birth of a baby? In fact, 1 out of every 10 dads can develop postpartum depression.
Dads need support and screening for mental health concerns just like moms do, but for many reasons, this is not often the case.
Dads – remember that it’s a big transition when you have a new baby, and as much as you may feel a need to support your partner, you deserve to be supported as well. 💙👶

Before I even meet a new patient in person, I always walk in with a clear understanding that this is a person of deep value and worth. That this is a person who, with support can clearly get through hard times because this person has done it many times before.

I cannot fully express how these affirmations by themselves can be so deeply therapeutic. The reality is that the single most important thing I can do is hold firmly onto these affirmations when I meet one of my beloved patients, and reminding the person in front of me that this holds true in case they have forgotten it about themselves.

As someone who tried breastfeeding, let me tell you - It’s hard! It is emotionally taxing to be attached to another human being all the time.

While this beautiful bond is also completely amazing and full of benefits, it’s not for everyone. Spoiler alert!! That’s okay!!

I completely support moms who breastfeed, and I’m so proud of you! But I also recognize it as the challenge it is and support moms who either can’t or choose not to - I’m proud of you too!

Having a newborn is hard enough already with the different hormones, learning this new tiny human who relies on you, and trying to function on little sleep.

Let’s support each other no matter how we choose to feed our babies!

As we celebrate International Women’s Month, it’s essential to honor the remarkable women who advocate tirelessly for equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of life. This year’s theme, “Women who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion,” resonates deeply with me as I passionately advocate for women’s mental health.

In a world where stigma and discrimination still surround mental health issues, it’s crucial to recognize the tireless efforts of women who work to break down barriers and promote understanding and support for those struggling with mental health challenges.

This International Women’s Month, let’s celebrate the resilience, strength, and courage of women who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, especially in the realm of mental health. Together, let’s continue to amplify their voices, champion their causes, and work towards a world where every woman can thrive mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Valentines Day often looks the same for many moms - waking up early to make breakfast, picking out sweet gifts for your kids, making valentines for the class - the list goes on and on.

Then it’s time for your significant other. Making dinner, cleaning the house, and then there are THOSE duties.

How empty is your cup feeling, mama?

Don’t forget to take time for yourself! So often we preach about the importance of self care, but when is the last time you truly took time out for yourself? No, going to the grocery store alone or taking a shower as a basic need aren’t really self care.

•Read a book
•Paint your nails
•Journal
•Light a candle and have quiet time

Anything that sets apart time for your mental health - that’s a win!

Remember, you can’t pour into everyone else’s cups when yours is empty.
