This is the most commonly sold blanket in the US. It's called the Kuddle blanket and here is it's story!

It was all started by a healthcare linen supply company named Medline, located in Illinois. They originally made butcher aprons, but as more births moved out of the home and into the hospitals, the drab cloth that hospitals were using as baby blankets needed an update. and this company went from aprons to blankets.

The white, pink, and blue combination is simple, easy to recognize by staff (so not confused with the knitted blanket from family) and also gender-neutral.

Every year, approximately 1.5 million of this blanket are sold...including to medical city where we deliver babies.

What the heck happened to the baby's head???

Molding....and its a good thing.

During a vertex birth, the pressure from the birth canal works to "mold" the head into an oblong rather than round shape. Depending on the head/pelvis ratio or even the position of the baby or birthing person - this molding can range from not much to pretty extreme.

It's totally normal. It is one of the thigs that makes birth work - and one of the things that sometimes needs time and patience to allow it to happen.

Contractions during pregnancy?

These are often known as Braxton Hicks and may begin as early as 20 weeks. Braxton Hicks are usually the painless and irregular tightening of the uterus.

As pregnancy progresses, they may feel like cramping, tightness or pressure - sometimes they may feel like early labor and some people never feel them at all.

Braxton Hicks can be encouraged or worsened by dehydration hunger or even overdoing it.

There are many different body shapes and sizes and different bodies respond to pregnancy in many ways.

There is a wide variation in the amount of weight a person may gain in pregnancy. The most important thing to be mindful of is how and what you were eating to feel your body.

Your body is performing incredible functions during pregnancy and it needs to be fed wholesome, nutritious foods. Pregnant people need about 300 extra calories a day.

👀 Looking at beautiful things makes a beautiful baby
👀 No traveling while pregnant
👀 Don't lift your arms, or it'll wrap the cord around the baby's neck
👀 Don't sit in the sun or the baby will overheat
👀 Smoking might help keep you regular during pregnancy
👀 Don't go in the water or the baby will slide out

Luckily, NONE of these are true...but there is still bad advice out there. If you ever have questions about anything related to your pregnancy. Ask us!

Give us the opportunity to help ensure your pregnancy will be uneventful by making a plan.

Let’s get your blood pressure under control with safe blood pressure medication for pregnancy. Let us get your diabetes under complete control before that positive pregnancy test.

Lastly, if you have had multiple pregnancy losses, we need to see you before you try again. There are many correctable and treatable causes for recurrent miscarriages.

Why do newborns often look old?

It's mostly for the same reason - newborns and older people both have more skin than bone underneath.

For babies, this means there is enough skin to stretch over the increasing bone density and growth as the baby develops to adulthood. (For older people it means that bone density loss leads to more skin/less bone.)

Those jowls, receding hairline, deep wrinkles and what can look like a disgruntled frown...they are adorable on a new born and a glimpse into how their body will change into an adult human.
