Gouty arthritis on knee arthroscopy

This arthroscopic footage demonstrates classic gouty arthritis within the knee joint. Gout is caused by deposition of monosodium urate crystals, which trigger intense inflammation and progressive joint damage over time. Intra-articularly, these crystal deposits can coat cartilage, inflame the synovium, and impair normal joint mechanics—leading to pain, swelling, stiffness, and degeneration.

Visualizing gout at the tissue level helps explain why early diagnosis and appropriate medical management are critical to protecting long-term joint health.

What does normal ACL + PCL function look like in real time?
During arthroscopy, you can see the cruciates acting as the knee’s dynamic stabilizers:

🔹 Extension:
The ACL is tight, preventing the tibia from sliding forward, while the PCL relaxes and guides the joint into a locked, stable position.

🔹 Flexion:
The PCL becomes taut, controlling posterior tibial translation, while the ACL relaxes and allows smooth rollback of the femur.

Two ligaments, opposite tensions, perfect balance.
This is the biomechanics that keep athletes stable, powerful, and confident.

I truly appreciate all of you who take the time to message me with questions about injuries, symptoms, and treatment options. While I’m always happy to help, Instagram isn’t the ideal place to provide medical advice or make an accurate diagnosis.

Orthopedic conditions are best evaluated with a proper in-clinic assessment, where we can perform a detailed exam and obtain the appropriate imaging to understand what’s really going on. This ensures you receive the most accurate diagnosis and the most effective treatment plan.

For those unable to come in person, virtual appointments are also available, allowing us to discuss your concerns in a more secure, comprehensive medical setting.

If you’re dealing with pain or have questions about an injury, please contact the clinic directly to schedule an appointment. I look forward to taking great care of you.

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) of the hip…explained. It’s important to remember that the boney morphology (with range of motion) is what causes the problem: a labral tear with progressive cartilage degeneration.
The fix: repair the labrum AND remove the impinging bone!
