Friday Healthcare Tech Corner: AI Scribes

When was the last time you went to the doctor? Have you seen an AI scribe in action yet?

An AI scribe is a tool that “listens in” on appointments and automatically creates visit notes in real time. For doctors, it’s a game-changer. Less time buried in paperwork, fewer late nights catching up on documentation, and more time focused on the patient in front of them. For patients, it could mean quicker communication with the care team, more accurate records, and a smoother overall visit.

The potential is exciting, but it also raises important questions. How comfortable would you feel knowing AI is listening during your appointment? What would give you confidence that your information is secure and used responsibly?

When wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone, everything changed. Vegetation grew back. Rivers stabilized. Wildlife returned. A system that was breaking down finally started to thrive again, because balance was restored.

Sometimes the best lessons don’t come from boardrooms… they come from interns.

For this we reflect on this past summer. Our President, Chris Wilson, mentored a college junior exploring the field of healthcare benefits sales.

“This was a great reminder of how complicated healthcare can feel to someone new. The terminology we use can be confusing. Watching our intern build a baseline understanding over the summer made me think about how we communicate in this industry. Too often, people don’t fully understand what goes into pricing, claims, and benefits. It's really important that we take the time to educate our members and employers on how healthcare economics work and contribute to improving health literacy.” – Chris

Mentorship creates impact in both directions. And sometimes, the simplest questions can spark the most important conversations about where healthcare needs to go next.
