Tetracaine lollipops are most commonly used to help provide temporary, localized numbing in the mouth and throat. Typical uses include:
• Throat discomfort or irritation
• Mouth pain or sores
• Discomfort after dental or oral procedures
• Pre- or post-procedure throat numbing (such as before endoscopy or intubation, when prescribed)
• Situations where swallowing or speaking is uncomfortable

They dissolve slowly, which helps deliver the medication directly to the affected area. Because tetracaine is a potent local anesthetic, these lollipops are compounded and available by prescription only, with dosing and use instructions tailored to the patient.
