REGARDING THE SIMILAC FORMULA RECALL:
Dr Cavalier wants patients to know that there's a very specific, ***combination*** of symptoms that we're concerned about:
*Fever--for newborns to 3-month-old infants, that's a temperature of 100.4 or higher; for infants/toddlers older than 3 months, that's a temperature of 101 or higher.
*Inconsolable/Extreme Fussiness
*Bulging Soft Spot
*Hard/Tender Tummy
*Bloody Diarrhea

Babies get fevers (typically in conjunction with congestion and runny nose), and babies are fussy sometimes (they even have particular times of day that they are fussy/wanting to be held).
But, again, what we're talking about is a ***combination*** of the above symptoms: such as, fever, fussiness, and bloody diarrhea . . . , or fever, fussiness, and a very hard tummy. In these instances, we'll want you to reach out right away.

As it states in the attached news article:
"The powder formulas impacted by the recall include Similac,
Alimentum and EleCare. To identify if you have a package affected by the recall, check the number on the bottom of the container. If it starts with digits 22 through 37 and contains K8, SH or Z2, or has an expiration of April 1, 2022, or later, it should be thrown out. All of the recalled formula was produced at the company's Sturgis, Michigan, facility, the company said.

Abbott is initiating a proactive, voluntary recall of powder formulas, including Similac®, Alimentum® and EleCare® manufactured in Sturgis, Mich., one of the company’s manufacturing facilities. The recall does not include any metabolic deficiency nutrition formulas.

We're very excited about FDA approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for kids 12 and up! It will be important to plan ahead, though--many kids will be needing immunizations before school starts in the fall, and we will want to avoid giving other vaccines within 14 days of the COVID-19 vaccine.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - On Wednesday, a CDC advisory panel will review the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and determine whether to approve the shot for kids ages 12 to 15 years old. The Food and Drug Administration granted emergency use authorization for the
