Our patient Braelynn was met with a special surprise when her pre-op nurse drew her stuffed animal on her room door! 💕✨

Braelynn was born with bilateral clubfoot and began receiving care elsewhere when she started developing knee instability and pain. After multiple surgeries and procedures, Braelynn and her mother Talia decided to change her care to Scottish Rite for Children to be closer to home and were extremely happy with the treatment plan.

"It was the BEST decision," Talia says. "Braelynn and I were both comfortable with the treatment plan. They were so thorough and gentle."

Braelynn even said this was the best part of her summer due to the care she received. 🙌

Lorena is turning her healing journey into an opportunity to give back. 🎨 💛

During her time at Scottish Rite for Children, Lorena found comfort and healing through art. Now, she’s paying it forward.

Lorena is giving back in a big way — her artwork will be featured in this year’s Summer Colors Art Auction, helping raise funds to support other kids who are going through a similar journey. 🩻 🙌

Lorena's experience at Scottish Rite has even inspired her to purse a career in healthcare one day!

💚🧸 Higgy Con Recap 🧸💚

We had an unforgettable weekend at Higgy Con — the world's largest gathering of scoliosis patients! 💫 🩻

Two of our very own doctors were invited to speak at this year's event. Pediatric psychologist Dr. Jill West and pediatric orthopedic surgeon Dr. Megan Johnson discussed topics like mental health and early bracing for patients with scoliosis.

As a proud sponsor, we also got to engage with attendees by sharing what makes scoliosis and spine care at Scottish Rite world-class.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booths. We love being part of this community and watching the friendships and connections being made. 💕

✨ Cast off, crown on! ✨

After weeks in a Petrie cast, Peyton marked her big milestone in true royal fashion — with a sparkly dress, a crown and a special crown for her doctor, Dr. Will Morris too! 👑 Her family has been cheering her on every step of the way, from team shirts on surgery day to counting down the days until this moment.

Peyton’s spirit shines bright and we were honored to help her celebrate this magical moment. 💖

Meet 12-year-old Hanna! ✨💕

In sixth grade, Hanna was referred to Scottish Rite for Children by her family chiropractor who noticed the curve in her back. This news came after she passed her first scoliosis screening at school in fifth grade. At Scottish Rite, she was diagnosed with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.

Kelly, Hanna’s mother, explains that she was thankful they caught it when they did and not a year later when children get tested at school again in seventh grade. “We would’ve lost a year, and who knows how bad her curve would’ve been by then,” Kelly says.

Hanna wears a custom made in-house brace by orthotist Christina Gambrell and has about a year-and-a-half left of wearing it.

"Don’t make yourself think that you are weird for wearing it. It just proves that you have the strength to overcome it,” Hanna says as she handles her treatment with grace. 💪🩻

Meet our devoted occupational therapist, Amy! 🙌

Amy primarily works in the Hand Clinic and in outpatient settings. She gets to do so many unique things in her position such as transforming and implementing big ideas into actual solutions that help her patients.

Amy founded and serves as the director for Hand in Hand, a support group for children with congenital hand and upper limb differences. She wanted to create a community for our patient families beyond the clinic room by addressing psychosocial wellness, health literacy and occupational independence through modified play-based group activities. 💙

In support of those affected by the recent floods in Central Texas, we’ve tied green ribbons around trees and turned our campus lights green as small symbols of hope and unity during an incredibly difficult time. This tragedy has deeply impacted our community, including members of our own Scottish Rite for Children family.

To anyone walking through our doors who is carrying grief or hardship: you are seen, and you are not alone. 💚

Meet Ta'liyah! ✨❤️

While playing basketball, Ta'liyah experienced multiple dislocations in her left kneecap. She and her family found answers at Scottish Rite for Children through the Center for Excellence in Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction (CELLR). When Dr. Podeszwa and his care team found that Ta’Liyah’s leg was not aligned properly, they applied an external fixator to hold her shin bone in the correct position.

After a long road to recovery and physical therapy, Ta'liyah's frame has been removed and she is back to playing basketball!

"Scottish Rite has been a blessing to us. We never expected this journey with Ta’Liyah’s health, but we thank God for Scottish Rite for taking care of T and keeping her safe," says Shondre'a, Ta'Liyah's mother.

Keep up the great work, Ta'Liyah! 🙌🏀
