Magnolia Birth Center Water Birth I feel like I say this often, and maybe I’m just blessed to have amazing clients, but this mom and dad were such an amazing team! This was their second baby, first boy, and first out-of-hospital birth. It was such an honor to capture this sweet birth and to work ....

I've never done this before... I've had four babies now and have never told the story of any of their births! But I'm excited to do it this time! Especially since I have photos this time thanks to my dear dear friend, Anna Paschal. I'm not going to share anything super graphic but some weird things....

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the closure of Magnolia Birth Center (MBC).

We do not have one reason for this decision, but instead a set of obstacles that we just cannot overcome. Magnolia Birth Center was opened against all odds, despite medical opposition, with no financial assistance, and no outside help. MBC is a testament to hard work, long hours, and dedication; but it came with great personal sacrifice to the midwives. The recent COVID-19 crisis created a list of new problems for a small business with limited resources. Then, there is the need for a new long-term commitment for physician supervision/support. We have been unsuccessful in all attempts to secure a new contract with any local physician or the hospital to meet the state requirement of physician supervision.

MBC has provided care to over eight-hundred patients with over two-hundred births in the past three years without ONE emergency transfer from our center of a mother or a baby. The hope was that once the medical community saw the data and evidence of safe, quality, and affordable care that surely the birth center would be supported, but that has not happened. Instead there has been relentless, unprecedented political and professional opposition from the medical community since we opened our doors.
We will complete all births with due dates in June, then sadly close our doors by the end of July.
There is still hope that a free-standing birth center could be supported by the medical community of the Triad.
As consumers of healthcare, you can do something to let your voice be heard. You have the power to bring change.

My baby is almost a year old.  I get a little emotional and nostalgic when I think back on my fourth pregnancy and birth these days.  I'm often
