Meet Phil, a lifelong hiker whose passion for the outdoors led him to a challenging journey of healing and resilience. In August 2023, Phil tore his meniscus while training to summit Mt. Washington with his two sons; the pain prevented them from reaching the summit. After consulting with Sports Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ruwe, Phil made the decision to have surgery in March 2024. Through hard work and staying active, Phil rebuilt his strength and returned to training by June.

In October 2024, Phil conquered Mt. Washington with his sons by his side, battling extreme conditions with a stable, strong knee: "The knee performed very well. I never lost trust in it. I wouldn’t have attempted the summit in that weather if the knee felt weak or unstable." Thank you Dr. Ruwe and our incredible team at Connecticut Orthopaedics for helping Phil get back to what he loves most. Here’s to many more adventures, Phil!💪🌄

Congratulations to Dr. Glenn Russo! He ran the 2024 NYC Marathon for Dylan’s Wings Of Change. ”It was a beautiful day for the 26.2 mile race. It was a bit chilly to start in Staten Island. But we were sweating by the time we made it over the Verrazano Bridge... It was an amazing day. Most importantly, everyone was so excited and grateful to all the donors for the success of the fundraiser!” Dr. Russo said.

As part of this year’s NYC Marathon, fundraising he collected over $34,000 for Dylan’s Wings Of Change. This will go to the Wingman program, which works to develop empathy and connection amongst participants.

Dr. Adriana Blanco is a Board-Certified Rheumatologist who joined The Orthopaedic Group division of Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists to complement musculoskeletal care provided by our Orthopedic Specialists. Rheumatology is the medical field dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of patients with systemic illnesses that cause inflammatory arthritis and crystalline arthropathies. These illnesses may include examples such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Psoriatic Arthritis and Gout. She previously worked in the greater Waterbury area as a Rheumatologist with Rheumatology Associates, Alliance Medical Group and as a Clinical Instructor for the Yale University School of Medicine Primary Care Residency Program at Waterbury Hospital. She joined The Orthopaedic Group division of Connecticut Orthopaedic Surgeons in January of 2016.

Dr. Blanco completed her fellowship training in Investigative Rheumatology at the Yale University School of Medicine in 2006 after completing a three year residency in Internal Medicine at the Hospital of Saint Raphael, Affiliate of Yale University School of Medicine. She then practiced Rheumatology at Waterbury Hospital for Rheumatology Associates of Greater Waterbury with the title Clinical Instructor for Yale University’s Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program. During this time she also served as a Rheumatology consultant at Ga***rd Hospital. Prior to moving to Connecticut, Dr. Blanco lived in Colombia, South America where she graduated from medical school at the Escuela Colombiana de Medicina in Bogota, Colombia. She obtained her undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

While at Wayne State, Dr. Lynch was also elected into the AOA, the National Medical Honors Society. While in Colorado, under the direction of Dr. Douglas Dennis and Dr. Brian Haas, he trained as a specialist in primary and revision arthroplasty of the knee and hip. He continues to pursue related research interests which have produced various recent chapter, journal and internet publications focused on modern concepts in Total Knee and Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Dr.Lynch has been in private practice since 2004. In the years that followed, Dr.Lynch performed the first computer navigated total knee arthroplasty in New Haven County at Milford Hospital.
