Tuesday, May 6 is International NO DIET DAY.

Negative self esteem, comparison, judgement, thoughts of diets and restriction, compulsive exercise, body checking, and body hatred are all signs of a culture that has told you, you are not good enough as you are.

The problem here is that society...has no idea what they are talking about, because they are all looking to others to tell them what is 'supposedly' ok.

NOTE TO SELF; you are OK, just as you are. Diets don't work (95% fail). Society today has NO IDEA what is right or wrong...when it comes to anything...especially bodies.

Your body does amazing things for you every day. It gets up, digests food, gets you to work, thinks, shares, hugs, ponders, communicates, see's things, hear's things...feels things...

Honor No-diet day everyday. Your body deserves to be fueled, cared for, hydrated and moved... end of story...

Tuesday, May 6 is International No Diet Day.

Luckily, 8 years ago I FIRED Diet Culture, and Diets all together. I knew that Enough was Enough. Years and years of journaling the SAME STORY... of shame, guilt, anger, and degrading self talk, followed by behaviors of body punishment: restriction, binge eating, self harm, or compulsive over exercise.

And nothing that I did, negated the feelings of shame. I was drowning.

It wasn't until I said, enough is enough...and finally fired the God of Diet Culture that I was bowing down to.

Join me and others on May 6, as we say NO to diets and reject diet culture once and for all. @ .karianderson

Tuesday, May 6, is International NO DIET DAY. A day (or the start of a lifetime) to say NO to diet culture...the 89.9 billion dollar a year industry, NO to society's thin ideal, an NO to the lies this culture has told you about how you are supposed to look. Your body is yours. It is your unique vessel that you get to live this life in.

It has a certain color skin, a particular hair color, a width of shoulders and hips, a shoe size...all unique and individual to you. To your gene pool. To your ancestry, To your culture. To your environment. To your experiences.

Our bodies are not designed to look a particular way. They are meant to be ours. Uniquely, individually, beautifully... Diets not necessary. Especially because they don't even work. (95% don't work)

So on this day...I hope you start your own journey to freedom from a culture that tries to put all people in a specific size box, the box that will be accepted by the masses. Enough. Your body has already showed up for you over and over and over again, and it does so each and every day.

Lets take the time to respect and appreciate that, fuel it, move it, hydrate it and take good care of it, with out the unsolicited advice of others

Today is World Book Day....And most of you know I LOVE BOOKS! So we celebrate today. The funny thing is, I hated reading and books as a kid, but my mom loved them. Once I found my first book, in middle school that I connected with (watch to the video to hear what it was!) I was hooked.

Never did I ever imagine that I would write a book...or 2 or 3 or 4...It just happened, due to the passion and love I have inside to share stories, knowledge and wisdom that helped take me from a place of self-loathing to a place of self-acceptance and JOY! Life is so much better due to the reading of and the writing of books.

I am raffling off signed copies of both The Body Joyful and Not a Fat Annie, to enter, DM me your name, email, phone number and mailing address! Winners will be picked on Thursday, April 24, and contacted Friday, April 25. Dr. Kari Anderson National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)

I am sharing the 28 Lessons I learned in 28 days in Japan from my 3 year old grandson. Interested in following along? Join me in the private facebook group

Here is lesson 7. One I hope you all remember:

Lesson 7: Listen to your body.
Our bodies are smarter than we sometimes give them credit for. I remember when my oldest daughter was small, she would tell me when she wanted to go to bed. Momma, I'm tired. can i go to bed? she would ask. ---what a concept I thought then. Anne Poirier Timothy J. Drown

And a blessing. She was listening to her body. She asked for a drink when she was thirsty, she took a nap or asked to go to bed when she was tired, she asked to talk to a friend or play with a friend when she was feeling lonely, wanted to go outside when it was...sunny, rainy, snowy...to be in nature.

As we get older, we lose touch with what our body is asking, what it needs, so that we can ...make sure others are ok, do what needs to be done, work harder, look and behave how we think we should.

I know that we have a life that requires our attention. We also have the ability to question our own priorities, and take a moment to help ourselves regroup, or reset. Research tells us that taking a 2 minute stand/stretch, walk around the office or house or hydration break actually brings us more energy, focus and productivity.

And...only you know when you are hungry, thirsty, satisfied, tired, bored, sad, stressed, overwhelmed, anxious etc. no one else can do that for you....

May you listen to your body this weekend....she needs you.
