🚨 Attention South Carolina Families 🚨
Big changes are coming to South Carolina Medicaid (including TEFRA and BABYNET) beginning January 1, 2026 — and they could deeply impact therapy services for children.
What’s changing?
Medicaid plans to move Speech Therapy from a timed code to a per-session rate.
Why it matters:
60-minute sessions would be reimbursed at 40% less than they are now.
To stay sustainable, clinics would have to shorten sessions to 30 minutes — meaning less therapy per visit and more frequent appointments for families.
Every visit would also require pre-authorization, adding major administrative burdens and costs on businesses and therapists already handling prescriptions, documentation, and progress reports.
What we’re asking for:
Please sign our petition urging the SC Department of Health and Human Services to:
1️⃣ Pause these proposed changes
2️⃣ Reconsider the new reimbursement model
3️⃣ Include families, providers, and therapists in the decision-making process
AND
📞 Contact South Carolina Medicaid and your local state representatives to voice your concerns and share how these changes would affect your family.
💙 Our children are our most vulnerable population — and they deserve access to the care they need. Let’s advocate for them together.
