Some athletes collect medals. Jonathan Lyau collects decades.
We had the honor of welcoming Jonathan () into The Athlete’s Forge recently — one of Hawaii’s most legendary runners, stepping into our MotionMetrix 3D gait analysis system with one clear mission:
Sub-3 hours. Again. In his 60s.
Let that sink in.
Jonathan ran his first sub-3 marathon in 1980 — as a high school teenager. He’s since done it in 5 decades of his life — his teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. All at the Honolulu Marathon. He’s currently #4 all-time for the longest span between first and last sub-3 marathon. One more puts him at #1.
Beyond the times, he’s a Hall of Famer, a coach, a teacher, and one of the most generous contributors to the running community this island has ever seen — 17x top Kamaaina at Honolulu Marathon, 2x Great Aloha Run champion, 100,000 lifetime miles, and still giving back daily through Personal Best Training, Iolani School cross country, and the Aloha Cross Country Camp.
This is why we do what we do at The Athlete’s Forge. Not just to optimize performance — but to honor the journey of athletes like Jonathan who show us what’s possible when you pair passion with consistency.
We are honored to support you, Jonathan. Let’s get that record. 🤙
