What is Quercetin? It's a pretty common flavenoid found in many fruits and vegetables but the health benefits of quercetin are not well known. According to a 2016 study posted in the NIH National Library of Medicine at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4808895/, quercetin was shown to suppress inflammation and support immunity.

Even better, quercetin has been recently shown to be a highly effective zinc ionophore. vastly increasing the cellular absorption of zinc, where it can be effective as an anti-viral. When quercetin is combined with bromelain and vitamain C, it's bioavailability is greatly improved.

Health Benefits of Zinc and why Quercetin is so crucial to maximize its effectiveness:

Zinc activates and stimulates the immune system, keeping it strong against viruses, bacteria, and other diseases. Additionally impressive is that zinc helps to regulate your antioxidant balance which reduces the oxidative stress within the cell.

Zinc on its own is poorly absorbed in the cells though and can remain stuck in your bloodstream. In order to maximize the benefits of zinc, it is important to have a fat soluble molecule (ionophore) to assist zinc across the cell membrane. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory flavonoid quercetin is an excellent ionophore for this purpose.

Quercetin helps enhance the absorption of zinc in your cells, and both have similar antiviral functions. Since fat soluble cell membranes are not permeable to positively charged ions, it is difficult for Zinc (a positively charged ion) to pe*****te the cells. This means that zinc needs a transporter to cross the cell membrane. There are many fat-soluble nutrients that can do this, but quercetin seems to be particularly useful as a zinc ionophore.

Zinc is natrually found in such foods as eggs, asparagus, mushrooms, legumes and beans. Quercetin is most commonly found in apples, dark colored grapes, berries, raw broccoli and red onions. Getting nutritients from your diet is always the best for your overall health but if you are missing out on some important foods for your nutrition, supplementation is a great option.
