LASIK, short for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis, is the most commonly performed laser vision correction procedure in the world and remains one of the safest and most effective ways to correct vision. At Jenkins Eye Care, that legacy of excellence runs deep. Dr. Tyrie Jenkins was the first to perform LASIK in Hawaiʻi in 1998 and today, Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Nikpoor continue that commitment to innovation using the WaveLight Refractive Suite. This advanced technology allows for personalized treatment with exceptional precision, speed and accuracy to help patients achieve outstanding visual outcomes.
Seeing the procedure step by step can make the experience feel less intimidating — and even more exciting. For many patients, LASIK is more than a procedure; it is the start of seeing life more clearly.

Traveling soon? Don’t forget your eyes. Whether you’re headed to the beach, the city or the slopes, travel can bring extra strain to your eyes through dry cabin air, sun exposure, wind and increased screen time. Packing the right essentials, from glasses and contact lens supplies to prescribed eye drops and UV-protective sunglasses, can help keep your vision comfortable along the way.
For patients who have had a vision correction procedure, travel can feel even easier. Many share that one unexpected perk is having extra room in their luggage without the need to pack as many glasses, contact lens supplies or related essentials.
Before your next trip, make sure your eyes are ready for the journey too. Travel with confidence knowing your eye health is taken care of.

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, but modern treatment offers a safe and effective way to restore clearer vision. A monofocal lens is the standard lens option used in cataract surgery and is typically covered by insurance. We also offer a range of advanced technology lens options that may help reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses after surgery.
At Jenkins Eye Care, our team takes a comprehensive approach to diagnosis, consultation and treatment, helping each patient understand their options and feel confident in their care. The goal of standard cataract surgery is to remove the cloudy lens and restore clearer vision, often with the continued use of glasses after surgery. Cataract surgery has come a long way.

There are still many misconceptions about cataracts and treatment, but modern cataract surgery is safer, more advanced and more personalized than many people realize. Cataracts are progressive and do not go away on their own, and when vision becomes affected, surgery may be the most effective next step.
Today’s techniques are designed with precision, efficiency and patient comfort in mind. The procedure itself typically takes less than 15 minutes, which many patients find reassuring. The eye is also numbed with drops beforehand, so most patients do not experience pain during surgery. Together, these advances help patients feel more at ease while achieving clearer vision and improved quality of life.
If you are noticing cloudy vision, glare, difficulty driving at night or other changes in your sight, it may be time to learn more about your options.
