Jeffrey M. Sakai, OD Dr. Jeffrey Sakai provides comprehensive eye examinations for the entire family.

Our practice strives to provide you with the best possible vision correction with fashion eyewear, sunglasses and contact lenses. We focus on maintaining the health of your eyes, while also diagnosing and treating many eye diseases, such as eye allergies, pink eye, glaucoma, and dry eyes. Dr. Sakai has a special interest in dry eyes, for which he utilizes many treatments beyond artificial tears, including prescription eye drops (like steroids and cyclosporine), nutritional supplements, oral antibiotics, and tear duct plugs. He is also a founding board member of the Sjogren's and Lupus Foundation of Hawaii.

To our HMSA patients: You may have recently received a letter from HMSA stating that Dr. Sakai will no longer be participating with certain HMSA Medicare and vision plans in 2022. This information is INCORRECT. We will still be accepting HMSA patients next year, although the vision coverage will be provided by Eyemed. On August 25th, the Governor announced new stay-at-home orders starting August 27, 2020 for the island of Oahu.

We are classified as an essential business, so we will remain open as usual. We continue to adhere to strict safety measures to protect our patients and staff. Please keep in mind that we are seeing patients by appointment only and are not currently taking walk-ins. We also keep our front door locked to minimize patient traffic. Due to the city's extension of the stay-at-home orders to May 31st, we will need to reschedule any May eye appointments to June or later. If you have an appointment in May, please call our office at 845-4521 to reschedule.

We are still available to see patients for eye emergencies by appointment only. For other contact lens and medical eye issues, we may be able to perform telehealth exams via the internet or phone. Please call our office to schedule or if you have any questions.

Due to current CDC recommendations, our office is still TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR ALL ROUTINE AND NON-URGENT EYE CARE, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We are only seeing patients in-office for eye emergencies by appointment. Please see our earlier post on March 24th regarding this.

For other non-emergency eye issues (e.g. redness, irritation, contact lens problems, dry eyes, allergies, eye medication issues, etc.), Dr. Sakai may be able to service you with online telehealth examinations. You will need internet access with a phone, tablet or computer. Please call our office to inquire or leave a message.

Due to current CDC recommendations to limit the spread of COVID-19, our office is TEMPORARILY CLOSED FOR ALL ROUTINE AND NON-URGENT EYE CARE, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. We are only seeing patients for eye urgencies and emergencies by appointment.

For those of you who currently have appointments, we will be asking you to reschedule. At this time, we are tentatively rescheduling routine patients starting in May. This may change as the situation progresses, and we will call you if further rescheduling needs to happen.
