Memorial Day
Tomorrow is Memorial Day— a day for us to pause and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom, and the families who also carry that sacrifice every single day.
I never truly know how to say thank you enough to those who laid down their lives for people like me and for this country.
In this photo, you will see girl with messy hair. That little girl is me. I may have been around 5 years old. From the outside, the photo may not show struggle, but behind it was a very different story. We had no running water, no electricity and no hope for the future.
I did not have a real opportunity for education until I came to American. When I arrived in Honolulu, I was 12 years old. I had very little school background and could not even tell time.
Because of the sacrifices made by these fallen heroes, I was given a chance to learn, grow, and become the person I am today —- a health care provider who now has the privilege of helping others.
From the bottom of my heart, I want to say thank you to every family who lost a loved one in service to this country. Please know that their sacrifice did not go unnoticed. Their loss helped bless someone like me with freedom, opportunity, and hope.
May we never forget.
