With all that is happening in the world today with COVID-19, it is easy to overlook all of the other serious “mundane” health problems that still exist. This patient presented with a new diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer with widespread disease including to his femur and hip. Due to the destructive nature of his cancer his bone was about to break under his weight. The location and extent of the tumor required that I remove his proximal femur (with the tumor) and replace it with a complex hip replacement. Spread of the tumor distally meant the implant had to span his entire femur to reduce the risk of fracture below the implant. @ Orthopedic Associates of Hawaii

Some days are long. Some days are tough. I am able to enjoy the long and tough days because I am blessed with opportunity to help people in a bad situation. This patient presented with a chronic infection of her hip replacement after multiple revision replacements. In order to treat her infection I had to remove her hip replacement her proximal femur. After treating her infection, I was able to rebuild her hip with a complex revision hip replacement. First image is after removing her hip replacement with a temporary hip spacer. Second image is after I rebuilt her hip.
