Love, Reimagined: Finding Connection Beyond Romance

Love doesn’t only live in romance. For many adults, love shows up as belonging, purpose, and being seen—especially when navigating depression, obsessive thoughts, or other mental health challenges. At the Adult Mental Health Division (AMHD), we believe love can take many forms that support mental healing and wellness.

Community love grows in AMHD Clubhouses, where members are part of a team—sharing daily work, building skills, and contributing in meaningful ways. This sense of responsibility and mutual help can restore hope, purpose, and acceptance.

Peer love comes through AMHD’s Hawaii Certified Peer Specialists program. Mental Health Peer Specialists (MHPS) are people who have lived through mental health challenges and now support others—without labels or clinical language—by honoring personal identity, choice, and personal strengths.

If romantic love feels distant right now, know this: connection, care, and fulfillment are still within reach. Exploring AMHD services can be a powerful step toward wellness, belonging, and a life grounded in many forms of love.

AMHD provides statewide mental health services for adults, offering support that evolves with life. From short-term support to more intensive treatment, AMHD’s Continuum of Care is designed to meet people where they are and adapt as their needs evolve.

Behind this continuum is a strong network of community providers, including crisis services (with housing) and expanded adult residential care homes, working together to support stability, recovery, and hope.

Mental health isn’t one-size-fits-all—and neither is your mental health care. Learn more about AMHD services and resources: https://health.hawaii.gov/amhd

In Hawai‘i’s construction industry, mental health is often left unspoken. But a growing movement is working to break the silence.

Nationally, construction has the second-highest su***de rate among major industries, and some in the local field want to see greater awareness and resources for mental health support.
