🌿 Help Us Heal Hawai‘i 🌈

Mental Health Awareness Month is here — and your compassion can change lives. Every $175 donated to our Client Assistance Fund provides one counseling session for someone in crisis who otherwise couldn’t afford care.

At Samaritan Counseling Center Hawai‘i, no one is turned away for inability to pay. Your support helps keiki facing bullying, kupuna grieving loss, and families navigating life’s hardest moments — with hope, dignity, and aloha.

📅 Our goal this May: $10,000 = 57 sessions of healing.
✨ Give today and help someone find their path forward.

Today's reflection is from Greg Werner, who said: "Dreaming is wonderful, goal setting is crucial, but action is supreme. To make something great happen you must get busy and make it happen."

We can't wait for other people to act. It's up to all of us to take small steps to do the right thing, to advocate for ourselves. Actions can start small and then gain momentum, within us and within our communities. Change starts with us.

What goals do you have for 2025? What action will you take to move a step forward? Share with us in the comments below.

March is National Nutrition Month, and it's the perfect time to reflect on how what we eat can impact not only our physical health but our mental well-being, too. This year's theme is "Food Connects Us." 🍎🥗
https://www.eatright.org/national-nutrition-month

Food is a connecting factor for many of us. Food connects us to our cultures, our families and our friends. Sharing a meal is an opportunity to learn about its preparation, who made it and where the ingredients were sourced. Health, memories, traditions, seasons and access can all impact our relationship with food. While these factors influence the foods we eat, the foods we eat also affect our health.

A balanced, nutritious diet is a key element in supporting mental health. What we fuel our bodies with directly affects our mood, energy levels, and overall mental state.

Nourish your body and mind. Remember, self-care starts with the choices we make and the food we eat every day.

If you're looking for more resources or support, we’re here for you. Let’s take care of ourselves -- mind, body, spirit, and community. For more news, events, and self-care ideas, like this post and follow Samaritan Counseling Center Hawai'i on Facebook and Instagram.

We all know how important our pets are to us, and it has been found that the bond between people and their pets can lower stress and feelings of loneliness AND bring happiness to their owners. 🐶🐱💙

On April 6, 2025, join AFSP Hawai'i's first Honolulu Paws for Prevention event. There will be food vendors, dog product vendors, and 'regular' vendors, dog and keiki activities, contests with prizes, raffles and mental health and su***de prevention resources and experts on site.
https://supporting.afsp.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.event&eventID=10725

AFSP Hawai'i is teaming up with pet lovers like you to raise funds and awareness for su***de prevention. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps fund vital research, education, su***de prevention awareness, and support for survivors of su***de loss.

Together, we can help prevent su***de and provide hope to those who need it most. Let’s show that compassion comes in many forms—and sometimes, it has four paws! 🐾

Today's reflection is from Anne Frank, who said: "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."

We can take small steps that have a big impact, especially when we work together.

* Call a loved one and ask how they are doing.
* Volunteer at a nonprofit
* Donate food, gently used items, money, time, expertise
* Testify about why a bill is important to you, in person or in writing
* Attend a neighborhood board meeting or community gathering

St. Patrick’s Day is often associated with fortune and luck. But did you know that one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is self-compassion? This St. Patrick's Day, treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer to a dear friend.

Celebrate your wins, be gentle with yourself in times of struggle, and remember that it's okay to not have it all together—progress is a journey.

Whether through close friends, family, or our trusted support network, having someone to lean on is a powerful form of self-care. If you’re feeling isolated or down, reaching out to a loved one or a mental health professional can help lift your spirits.

Today is World Sleep Day 💤💤 a reminder that sleep isn’t just about rest — it’s essential for our mental health.

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep. But did you know that poor sleep can contribute to increased stress, anxiety, and depression? Our bodies and minds need quality sleep to function at their best, and when we prioritize rest, we enhance our emotional resilience and overall well-being.
https://worldsleepday.org/

Taking care of your mental health starts with a healthy sleep routine. Here are three tips to help improve your sleep and, in turn, your mental wellness:

* Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Children and youth need 8-12 hours of sleep!
* Avoid large meals before sleeping. Choose lighter snacks if you're feeling hungry and cut back on caffeine.
* Follow a relaxing bedtime routine. Limit screen time and unwind with calming activities like reading, breathing exercises, or meditation.

Take a moment today to reflect on your sleep habits and take steps toward better rest!

If you or a loved one need support, call Hawai‘i CARES at 988 or text ‘ALOHA’ to 741741. If you need someone to talk to, please call Samaritan Counseling Center Hawaii at 808-545-2740 to make an appointment.

Today's reflection is from Denis Waitley, who said: "You have two primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist, or accept the responsibility for changing them."

So much of our lives seems out of our control. But we have more choices than we know.

We can choose to accept injustice or we can speak out against it.
We can choose to accept prejudice or we can take a stand against it.
We can choose to accept anger or we can strive for forgiveness, for ourselves and others.

We can make choices, big and small, outward and inward, to help change things for the better.
