During Stroke Awareness Month, we’re sharing the inspiring story of Jonathan Hoʻomanawanui, a local musician whose quick action made all the difference. After suddenly experiencing difficulty speaking, loss of coordination and weakness on one side, he recognized something was wrong and called 911. At The Queen’s Medical Center—home to Hawaiʻi’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center—he received the urgent care he needed.

As Kazuma Nakagawa, MD, explains, stroke can quickly damage the brain, making time critical. Remember the warning signs with B.E.F.A.S.T. (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time) and call 911 right away. Jonathan’s journey back to music is a powerful reminder for all of us: early recognition and fast action can save lives. 🎶💙

Our Oncology on Canvas event brought patients, survivors, and caregivers together to reflect on their cancer journeys through art. Each piece offered a personal perspective shaped by experience, strength, and support.

Mahalo to artist Jocelyn Cheng, Darlene Sardinha, and the volunteers who helped create a thoughtful space for our oncology community to connect. 🎨

Stroke treatment begins in the ambulance. Taking a non-emergency vehicle to the hospital delays specialized care and limits treatment options. Recognize the signs of stroke, call 911, and save a life.

Honoring the life and legacy of Prince Albert Edward Kauikeaouli Kaleiopapa a Kamehameha. 🤍

Today, Queen’s employees and community members gathered at Mauna ʻAla to commemorate the 168th birthday of Prince Albert, the beloved son of King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, whose legacy remains deeply connected to the founding mission of The Queen’s Health Systems.

Through oli, hula, mele and reflection, we continue to honor the values of compassion, service and aloha that guide our work today.
