During Stroke Awareness Month, we’re sharing the inspiring story of Jonathan Hoʻomanawanui, a local musician whose quick action made all the difference. After suddenly experiencing difficulty speaking, loss of coordination and weakness on one side, he recognized something was wrong and called 911. At The Queen’s Medical Center—home to Hawaiʻi’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center—he received the urgent care he needed.
As Kazuma Nakagawa, MD, explains, stroke can quickly damage the brain, making time critical. Remember the warning signs with B.E.F.A.S.T. (Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time) and call 911 right away. Jonathan’s journey back to music is a powerful reminder for all of us: early recognition and fast action can save lives. 🎶💙
