This post is fantastic. Empathy goes a long way in relationships!!

Empathy is generally understood as the capacity to identify and share someone else’s emotions and experiences. Dr. Gottman describes empathy as mirroring a partner’s feelings in a way that lets them know that their feelings are understood and shared. He cites it as the key to attunement with you...

Marriage Minute from the Gottman Institute:

Rainy Relationship Days

Every relationship has its ups and downs, and sometimes you’re going to experience a rainy relationship day, week, or season. But it’s how you prepare for those gloomy days that counts.

Dr. Gottman says, "Nobody has the emotional stamina to turn towards other people's needs twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Realizing the limits of our time and attention, if you face a time when turning towards one another is impossible, the goodwill you've accumulated will be enough to see you through to better times."

When you’ve built up enough positive interactions with each other, your relationship will be able to weather the difficult times better, and it will keep you on track for maintaining a healthy, happy life together.

So, build up positive interactions today to save for a rainy day in the future.

Leave your partner a little love note, tell them something you appreciate about them, or spend some quality time with each other today.

When should you explore couples counseling?

We typically feel most confident in areas of our lives where we have support, and our relationships are no different. Research shows that couples who seek help early have the best chance of thriving even during difficult times. It can be especially helpful to seek guidance for yourself and your loved one during big life events and transitions.

Working with a trained professional is an investment in your relationship and overall well-being. On the Gottman Relationship Blog, Terri A. Ammirati, LCPC (Ammirati Counseling) offers tips to help you seek support for your relationship: https://bit.ly/2Zv2UW5
