With great sadness, the Jane Goodall Institute confirmed this morning the passing of the organization’s founder, Dr. Jane Goodall, age 91 who died peacefully in her sleep while in Los Angeles, CA for her speaking tour in the United States.

Dr. Goodall’s life and work not only made an indelible mark on our understanding of chimpanzees and other species, but also of humankind and the environments we all share. She inspired curiosity, hope and compassion in countless people around the world, and paved the way for many others — particularly young people who gave her hope for the future.

In 1960 Dr. Goodall established the longest running wild chimpanzee study in Gombe National Park, Tanzania which continues to this day. She pioneered and sustained the Jane Goodall Institute’s community-centered conservation initiatives across the chimpanzee range for over four decades. Her legacy includes the creation of JGI’s international environmental and humanitarian youth program Roots & Shoots, which is actively driving change in 75 countries and counting around the world.

A group from the Neptune corporate office spent an afternoon volunteering with Feeding South Florida, and helped sort 9,542 pounds of food, which will provide more than 8,000 meals for those in need.
September is Month, to raise awareness about food insecurity and mobilize communities to take action against hunger in the United States. Organizations like Feeding South Florida coordinate efforts to educate the public, encourage donations and volunteerism, and advocate for policy changes to address the root causes of hunger and poverty. We're so honored to be part of this effort.

Neptune Little Rock Service Manager Doug Norton went out on Eve and brought treats to lots of caregivers and first responders in Bryant and Hot Springs who were working on the holiday, including Bryant and Hot Springs firefighters and police officers, staff at Elder Independence Care, Hospice Home Care, Elite Hospice in Hot Springs and Saline County, Hot Springs Gentiva Hospice, National Park ER Hot Springs (where Doug was hugged by nurses happy to see him), Saline Memorial ER, and St Vincents ER Hot Springs.

In a week when we’re thinking about gratitude, Neptune Little Rock Service Manager Doug Norton visited caregivers at Arkansas Hospice Searcy, Cabot ER, Hospice Home Care Searcy, Unity Health ER Jacksonville, Unity Health ER Searcy, and our Little Rock personal care center, which takes such great care of our families. We are so thankful to you all every day.

Neptune Little Rock Service Manager Doug Norton attended a meeting with the nurses and social workers at Conway Arkansas Hospice, bringing doughnuts and other goodies – including their favorite pens. “It was another great morning telling our story,” Doug said.

Neptune Little Rock Office Coordinator Ellie Tidwell put together dozens of gift bags for ER nurses at Baptist Hospital and St. Vincent hospital; we wanted to give them individual gifts full of goodies they’ll actually use.
And for Halloween, it was all treats and no tricks from Ellie for our friends at the Little Rock Vital Statistics and Coroner’s offices!

“It’s always great seeing other caregivers – and getting positive feedback,” Doug said. “It’s awesome to be able to tell our story.”
