Healthy changes can start at any time.

Dr. Tyler Knapp of Baptist Health Family Clinic-Otter Creek, who specializes in managing chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes, offers advice for improving health:

1. Start Small: Begin with an easily achievable exercise goal, such as a daily 15-minute walk.
2. Manage Stress Actively: Incorporate regular exercise as a core method for stress management.
3. Prioritize Prevention: Schedule regular checkups to identify health concerns at their earliest stage.
4. Engage the Family: Parents are encouraged to foster fun and healthy habits for their children.

The clinic currently treats patients aged 10 and up, with new pediatric services launching soon.

Cervicalgia, a clinical term for neck pain, is discomfort around the spine beneath the head. Cervicalgia can be caused by a variety of different issues, including muscle strains, poor posture, osteoarthritis, and stress. Common complaints include neck stiffness and soreness, decreased neck range of motion, and headaches. It is also possible to experience radiating symptoms down to the shoulders, upper back, arms, and fingers. Physical therapists specialize in diagnosing and treating cervicalgia, as well as ruling out conditions that may present similarly. A physical therapist may instruct in neck stretching and strengthening, as well as evaluate posture. Recommendations for workplace ergonomics and stress management may also be appropriate steps to take. If you think you may be experiencing cervicalgia, contact your local Baptist Health Therapy Center for help today!

11/05/2025

Adhesive capsulitis, also known as frozen shoulder, is a condition in which inflammation causes the shoulder joint to become painful and stiff. Symptoms vary based on the ā€œstage of freezingā€, but typically involve dull and aching pain that gets worse with shoulder movement. As frozen shoulder progresses over time, a person may experience decreased shoulder pain but continued limitations with range of motion. The final stage involves a ā€œthawingā€ of the frozen shoulder, with gradual returns of strength and shoulder range. Frozen shoulder often improves without surgery, and physical therapy plays a large role in restoring movement. Physical therapists are skilled at measuring deficits and tracking progress, and will be able to instruct you on stretches and strengthening exercises to increase shoulder function. If you are experiencing shoulder stiffness and pain that limits your daily activities, contact your local Baptist Health Therapy Center for help today!

Parkinson disease is caused by the loss of the cells in the brain that produce dopamine. This decrease in dopamine can impair control of body movement, decision making and mood. Some of the most common physical impairments associated with Parkinson are tremors, increased muscle and joint stiffness, and slowed movements. These impairments can lead to changes in ability to walk and balance issues. At Baptist Health Therapy Centers, a therapist will perform an individualized evaluation to determine the limitations that need to be addressed and develop a specific treatment plan that may include stretching, strengthening, and balance activities to improve overall function.

šŸŽ‰ October is Physical Therapy Month, and this week we are celebrating—Erin Musgrave, PT, DPT, Pelvic Health Specialty

We recognize Erin for her dedication to advancing patient care through both orthopedic and pelvic health physical therapy. Erin earned her Bachelor of Science in 2014 and Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2017 from the University of Central Arkansas. She began her career in orthopedics, but quickly identified a broader need among her patients—leading her to pursue specialized training in pelvic floor therapy.

Since 2020, Erin has provided comprehensive care in both orthopedics and women’s health, with a particular focus on pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and pelvic wellness. Her clinical expertise and compassionate approach make her an invaluable asset to our team and to the patients she serves.

Outside of work, Erin enjoys spending time with her husband, Michael, and their two children. She’s an avid animal lover, active in her church community, and finds joy in baking and the outdoors.

We’re proud to celebrate Erin’s contributions during PT Month.

09/15/2025

Spinal stenosis takes place when the space surrounding your spinal cord becomes too narrow, specifically in the neck or lower back. Spinal stenosis often develops slowly and can cause radiating symptoms down the arms or legs. Common symptoms include pain, numbness, and weakness. With low back stenosis you may experience weakness and cramping in the legs, difficulty with prolonged standing or walking, and decreased pain with sitting and leaning forward. Neck stenosis presents slightly differently, with numbness and tingling through the arms, as well as difficulty with hand tasks. Treatment for spinal stenosis largely depends on the cause and severity of your symptoms. While surgery may be necessary for more severe cases, conservative care including physical therapy is typically a warranted first step. Physical therapy will generally involve exercises including core strengthening and flexibility training. Your physical therapist will work to develop an individualized plan of care that addresses not only strength deficits, but return to functional activities as well. If you need help managing spinal stenosis symptoms, please contact your local Baptist Health Therapy Center today!
