🚨 Community Health Update: Canine Upper Respiratory Infections 🚨
We want to make our clients aware that we’ve been seeing multiple cases of upper respiratory infections (URI) in dogs over the past week — and we’ve also received word that local boarding facilities are reporting similar outbreaks along with other Vet Hospitals.
This is not meant to alarm anyone, but rather to help keep our community’s pets safe.
👉 If your dog is not up to date on vaccines (especially Bordetella, influenza, and parainfluenza), please avoid:
• Dog parks
• Boarding or daycare facilities
• Grooming salons
• Any place where dogs gather in close contact
The vaccine may not prevent a URI, but it could help shorten and the lessons the symptoms and severity
What to know:
• Most of the time, these infections are viral and will run their course.
• Keep any coughing or sick pets separate from others for up to two weeks to help prevent spread.
• Typically, we do not prescribe antibiotics unless the infection appears to be turning bacterial — however, with this current strain, we’re finding that antibiotics are often needed to help clear it up.
• Remember, you can carry these germs home on your clothes, so change or wash up after visiting public pet areas or handling other dogs.
If your dog develops a cough, nasal discharge, or lethargy, please keep them home and contact your veterinarian before bringing them in.
💙 Thank you for helping us protect our community’s pets!
