These past few weeks have held an extra weight to them. In my work, it remains a sacred privilege to accompany individuals through their struggles. I had to take some time to regroup in order to continue. Here is a link to my reflection on how the words of Pope Leo XVI helped me to reset. https://kristinatalbot.substack.com/p/recovering-hope

When I started my business a few years ago I dreamed of working in a manner that fit with my family. This summer, I opted to scale back my time in the office in order to spend more time with them.
It wasn’t perfect.
I didn’t get everything done.
But it helped me see that part of the beauty of this work is that I get to learn and grow along with those whom I serve.
The principle of self-compassion remains fundamental to what I teach in my practice. This summer, I worked on engaging that skill within my own life as I was reminded that we can’t always do it all, but we can order our priorities.
I’m so happy to be back to work with regular office hours and I’m so thankful for the gift of being my own boss to allow for time well spent.

It’s funny how we can put restrictions on ourselves that keep us from things we need. I have skipped countless short beach walks because I was already in my “work clothes”.

Today, I opted to over ride that “rule” and soak up the sun for a few moments before starting the day. Perhaps, there is a little pause you can insert into your work day that may help…a short walk at lunch even without the “right” shoes, a brief stop at a park before or after work could also be in order.

We are able to set so many things up the way we prefer, but sometimes, over riding our “preferences” opens us up to opportunities we talked ourselves out of.

What can you “over ride” this week to give yourself a moment?

Can you think of a time you took a risk?

The picture on your left, is me terrified to walk into a room full of strangers in mid- September. I literally sat in my car for 5-10 minutes working to convince myself that I belonged in a room filled with community leaders dealing with a strong case of imposter syndrome.

Fast forward to the picture on your right. That’s me sitting in the car today with a heart full of gratitude, wrapping up session 8 with that same group of people who are no longer strangers but friends.

Last summer I took a risk and applied to become a member of the c/o 2025 which will go down as the best class ever. Through the course of eight sessions, I was exposed to different facets of our community I didn’t even know existed and I had the opportunity to get to know dynamic individuals whose added value to our community is immeasurable.

To share space with the beauty, greatness, and brilliance found in this group of professionals has truly been life changing. Not only am I no longer terrified to enter the room with them, I am now concluding this chapter with collective marching orders to make this time together mean something that goes beyond the walls of the rooms in which we have gathered. So thus, we are no longer waiting on the world to change, we get to be the change with this new perspective we have been given.

Our lives can become so busy that we neglect our most basic needs. In this most recent article, I share some tips on how to anchor ourselves to invite more peace into our needs. Surprisingly, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Article link is in my bio

A few years ago I had a moment where I heard the message I had been repeating to clients and loved ones:

“Believe in yourself.”
“Identify your gifts and share them.”
“Don’t limit yourself because of fear.”
“Your job does not have to define you, you are made for more.”

As I heard this encouragement, I realized that I wasn’t really listening to my own words. Deep within my heart there was something that felt as though it was bursting to come out. Relief would come only when I put that thing pressed upon my heart into words on a page.

Through a series of events and incredible support from loved ones, I started writing and began to build a business. In and through that process, I started living what I had spent years telling others. This allowed for work to become more than one dimensional and thus include writing as well as therapeutic mental health care and consulting.

I continue to learn and grow through the process. Most recently, I added Substack as a place to write more intentionally about the things that are placed upon my heart. I hope you’ll consider subscribing to read more of my writing. This week, I share about compassion fatigue in parenting.

The word grief can ignite a number of valid emotions. It is something we all experience, but often it is not something we readily talk about.

In February, I had the gift of meeting Jennifer who shared that through her own journey of grief she was led to talk about the many different aspects of grief through a podcast called Mourning Glory Podcast she does with a friend.

I am thankful for her invitation to share not only about the accompaniment and work I do surrounding grief; but also my own journey through losses. The interconnectedness of my life and work run deep, but it is not something that I often share given the boundaries and focal point of the therapeutic process.

This conversation was such a blessing and I hope it provides you with some takeaways in order to hold space in your life no matter the scope. Thank you for the ministry you provide through this outlet to open the conversations surrounding this aspect of the human condition.

Ever map out a plan for personal growth and dedicated spiritual development?

Every year, during Lent, i set aside time and make grand plans to make some necessary changes. But unfortunately, less than two week in, those plans are thwarted.

The good news is that there is still time for a course correction. I hope this article is encouraging.

Kristina Talbot reflects on persevering through this season of Lent even when we have not met our own expectations.

17 minutes doesn’t sound like much time and it really isn’t. But this morning that was a small window of time I had between obligations and instead of arriving early and killing time on my phone, I made a stop along the way.
What beautiful place of nature do you have “right there”?
So often I can get caught up in the busyness of life and forget that “right there” is an expanse of beauty that doesn’t require a production or a huge window of time to absorb.
This week, I encourage you to take a moment that may only be between 5-17 minutes to go to that place that is “right there” so you can take a moment to regroup and set yourself up for a great rest of your day.
That rosary I was able to squeeze in during those 17 minutes as the waves created a backdrop for me meditating on the verses that come with each mystery set the tone for my week. Now, I can do the next thing and so can you, after that small break.

It’s license renewal time here in Florida and so I got to spend today doing some professional development work with on-line CEUs.

Each time I renew my license I take a moment to reflect on what it took to get those four letters behind my name. Just a month into supervision for my license, I informed my supervisor that I was expecting our first child and I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through the licensure process as a new mom. Thankfully, with her blessing, flexibility and support, she saw me through and while pregnant with our second child, I took my exam and stamped the letters, LCSW behind my name.

So often, unanticipated events can disrupt our plans. Yet, those disruptions don’t have to mean the end of our goals.

I couldn’t have anticipated that the loving support and belief of my supervisor along with my support system would have led to a thriving career that has allowed me to be present to my family as well as continue in the work that I love.

It is truly a sacred privilege to serve others in their most vulnerable of moments. Today I’m thankful that for another two years, the initials remain and the work continues.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to participate in a SIMSOC with LEAD Brevard. The experience reinforced this recent reflection I wrote on Black History Month.

We are inextricably connected to one another and this month offers an opportunity not only to reflect on the unique challenges faced by people of color throughout the history of our nation, but also the chance to develop a response to our brothers and sisters that leads with love.
