Strategically including carbs in your meal.

If you have diabetes, but want to have your serving of pasta, bread or rice, here is a trick to avoid a blood sugar spike.

Eat protein first, then vegetables and then carbs. Eating in this order helps because :

1. You won’t be able to eat as big of a serving as you would already be somewhat full.

2. Your blood glucose won’t rise as quickly as protein and vegetables slow down the absorption of glucose from the carbohydrates.

A small study done a few years ago actually proved it. Here is the link if you would like to read it.

You know I’m a fan of intermittent fasting.

But I’m also a fan of not ignoring your body’s hunger signals.

Here are some healthy options if you’re hungry for breakfast.

Also, a list of common breakfast foods to avoid… because if you start your day with an ultra processed high sugar breakfast, it is much harder to eat right the rest of the day.

“I just want to eat normal food like normal people, doc”.

Many of my patients say that when we discuss food.

“What does normal mean?,” I say.

Here is the dictionary meaning of normal.

“conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern : characterized by that which is considered usual, typical, or routine.”

70% of Americans suffer from excess weight. So by definition, that is normal.

And “normal” food is what most people eat …bagels, donuts, frozen lunches, fast food, soda and processed snacks.

So by definition, being overweight and eating unhealthy food is “normal” in today’s age.

How did we get to this place that eating processed food is “normal” and eating whole healthful food is a “restrictive diet”!

You want to be healthy.

You don’t want to be “normal”.

Focus on eating what’s best for your body and think of it as a reward, not as a punishment or deprivation from “normal” food.

Let’s lead the way to a new normal.

As your physician, I help you make lasting lifestyle changes to improve your health. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 321-341-1700.

NASA PRIMARY CARE is 1 year old!!

Seems like it was just yesterday when we were painting these walls.

And what a year it has been!!!

A huge thanks to my patients…

…who have followed me through different practices as I made changes in my career.

… who drive miles and miles to come see me

…who are like family, who have cheered me on and told me they are proud of me

… who are like friends…because of whom work does not feel like work and time flies by

… who have referred their family and friends to me

… who go out of their way to recommend me in online groups and communities

… who ask me ” How are you?” And tell me to take care.

… who shower me with gifts and blessings and good wishes any chance they get

… also who are new and scared, but still open their hearts to me

… and all of you who place your trust in me to take care of your most important asset, your health

They seem to be a quick way to get all the goodness of fruit and vegetables in a de...
