Next up in the crash course series: crow’s feet.

These lines are caused by contraction of the orbicularis oculi and become more noticeable with smiling and expression. For newer injectors, this is a helpful area to learn because it teaches you how to assess movement, balance, and patterning around the eyes.

✨Jelly Rolls✨

If you’ve never heard that term before, “jelly rolls” are the little bunches or soft rolls that can pop up right under the lower lash line when you smile. The muscle there is part of the orbicularis oculi, which is the muscle around the eye.

A lot of patients treat this area because it can help the under-eye look a little smoother and less bunchy when they smile. It can also make the eyes look a little more open and refreshed in a really subtle way.

I personally get this area treated because when I smile, I notice that little under-eye bunching, and I just like the softer, smoother look it gives me. It doesn’t change my smile, it just makes that area look a little less puffy and crinkled.

It’s one of those tiny tweaks that can make a big difference, especially if your smile is super expressive like mine.

As always, treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all, so it really depends on your anatomy and goals. But jelly rolls are definitely worth talking to your injector about.

Let’s talk about the the frontalis—the muscle that lifts the brows and creates those horizontal forehead lines we see so often.

For new injectors, this is such an important area to study because treating the forehead is never just about the forehead. The frontalis plays a major role in brow position and upper facial expression, so understanding how it moves, how strong it is, and how it works with the surrounding muscles is key to creating balanced results.

One of the biggest things I want newer injectors to understand is that anatomy always comes first. The more you learn to assess movement and recognize each patient’s individual pattern, the more confident you’ll become in building a safe and thoughtful treatment plan.

If I could speak to anyone starting out in aesthetics, I’d tell you that this career is about so much more than learning how to inject.

Yes, technical skill matters. But what really shapes you over time is judgment, experience, patient communication, and understanding how to apply what you’ve learned in real clinical practice.

After 14 years as an injector, and as someone who still sees patients every single day, I know how different the real world can feel from the classroom. That’s why education should go beyond technique alone. You need to understand how to assess, how to think critically, how to navigate different patient presentations, and how to keep growing at every stage of your career.

That’s also exactly how I approach training.
