Momma Salone delivered her baby with us last month. Midwife Katy is one of her best friends and wrote this about the birth:

“After a long, peaceful, and exhausting labor with her first baby, Salone was greatly anticipating baby number two. After weeks of prodromal labor, contractions picked up early one afternoon. She came in around 8pm for a check—and over the next two hours, labored with strength and instinct. She moved intuitively through the room, listened to her body, and still managed to laugh with me and her husband between contractions.

Even though she doubted things were moving quickly, James and I could tell birth was near. As her baby moved down, Salone shifted naturally into a new position—and just a few pushes later, she was holding sweet Baby Wallace in her arms. The shock and awe of a fast, instinctual birth—and the joy of finally meeting her son—were incredible to witness.

There’s truly nothing like being present when one of your dearest friends brings new life into the world.”

Momma Crystal had her second birth center experience last week with us! Baby Mark made a beautiful entry into the world. In Crystal’s own words:

“So so grateful for the entire team that was there helping me through my labor and delivery at The Midland Birth Center. From hip squeezes, belly sifting, and just uplifting words, all the midwives and nurse were so good to me. Big families are supported and welcome there. My 4th successful VBAC and 2nd birth at the birth center 💙”

The Midland Doula Collective will be at the Midland Health Wellness Fair! Friday, August 1st from 3:00 - 7:00 at Bush Convention Center. Come meet the doulas in the collective, and ask all your questions!

We absolutely love recommending this group of women to our clients and the community. They are instrumental in helping women achieve an unmedicated birth in any setting. But they are also great, maybe even more important for women needing induction or choosing pain medication in a hospital setting.

Doulas offer professional pregnancy and labor support so that you can have the best birth possible for you and your family. Studies have shown that when doulas attend births, labors are shorter with fewer complications, babies are healthier, and babies breastfeed more easily.

Big Brother River got the honor of naming Baby Layla! Mom and Dad couldn’t find the perfect name, but River knew in his heart — his sister was Layla. And Layla didn’t keep them waiting. Momma Sarah arrived just before midnight earlier this month, and Layla made her debut just after 1 a.m. Sarah did beautifully! Congratulations, and welcome to the world, Baby Layla!

If you were at the birth center last Monday afternoon, you probably heard the excitement — it was Baby Louie’s birthday! Momma Melissa was actually scheduled for a prenatal appointment that day. When we called to see if she could come in a little earlier, she laughed and said she already knew she would be — labor was underway! She arrived around lunchtime and confidently rocked her birth. Baby Louie was in her arms before the clinic day was over.

Ashtyn is one of our fabulous birth assistants. She is a dedicated Registered Nurse with a deep commitment to supporting women through their most vulnerable and powerful moments. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Abilene Christian University, and her passion for maternal health has driven her to specialize in advocating for women during birth. She believes every woman deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. She strives to create a compassionate, empowering environment where they can feel safe and valued throughout their birthing journey. She is a proud mother of two sons, Knox and Nash.

Sometimes plans change and that’s ok.

In Momma Michelle’s own words: “Jamie was wonderful and so on top of the situation we were in. I never once was scared or worried under her care. I knew she made the best decisions for us under the circumstances we were in. The birth assistant was wonderful as well as Sarah, our doula, who made sure we got to the hospital and followed our original birth plan. I know our safety was everyone’s top priority and we are very grateful for everyone there. And thanks to Courtney as well! I’m glad we still got to deliver with one of our midwives!”
