Please read this will help I promise!
Today, I had a patient who struggles with fainting during blood draws. I shared some techniques that really helped him, and I want to pass them on.
When I know a patient feels anxious, I engage them in conversation about their job, hobbies, or even tattoos—anything to distract them. Once I find the vein, I keep an eye on their breathing and remind them to take deep breaths. This approach has worked wonders for me over the years.
Today, the patient left feeling empowered and ready to use these techniques anywhere he goes. It’s essential for phlebotomists and nurses to communicate with our patients. Many have told me that their previous experiences lacked interaction. Remember, these individuals come to us for support. Let’s treat them like family—it truly makes a difference!
