Does your baby have Torticollis? 🤔 Research shows one in SIX babies may be born with torticollis, and it is the third most common orthopedic diagnosis for infants in the U.S. But, unless you’ve had a child with torticollis or know somebody that has, chances are you have absolutely no idea what it is. It’s definitely not included in those “what to expect” books and blogs.
Torticollis is the most common diagnosis I treat in babies under three months old, but I have seen babies as old as eight months with referrals. The key is: the sooner the better! As soon as you notice any kind of asymmetry in your baby’s head and neck movement, you need to be intervening. Delayed treatment of torticollis can cause developmental delays, asymmetrical head shape possibly requiring a helmet, and even problems developing vision and whole body awareness, such as left vs right and crossing midline.
If you think your baby might have torticollis, shoot me a PM - don’t just google “how to fix torticollis”. It is SO much more than stretching. Then book an evaluation and let’s get your baby lined out and on the path to proper motor and neurological development! Local (Midland, Tx) and telehealth options available!
