We had so much fun putting this video together! A while back a good friend asked about a live edge coffee table, and I wanted to give him a selection. Here are ten species of lumber that we milled and dried, and made coffee table tops!

We are excited to have all these samples in the showroom so our customers can see first hand what each type of lumber looks like.

We can put any base you desire on any of these tops. If you see one that really catches your eye, and would make the perfect piece in your space, hurry up and come see us, as we have limited supplies of each type. Prices range from $500 to $1,100.

Sylvia said make sure and watch to the end, because her favorite is one of the last ones!

Call us at 334-233-8138 or email at admin@longleafwoodshop.com to make an appointment to come see us!

The last few days we delivered three tables to Lake Martin homes, and each one was so different than the others.

We think each customer did a fantastic job in envisioning the right table fo their decor.

We were excited to deliver: a Modern ten foot Hickory table, a traditional Walnut round pedestal table, and a rustic live edge Sycamore table.

We love working with our customers and are so glad they have different, wonderful tastes!

As a Maker I sort of get it. When I make furniture, I grow to love it. A lot of times we hang on to it in our showroom after it’s finished, waiting on the customer’s space to get ready. And it gets harder to let it go. Pretty much every piece has a flaw that may be only known by me. It’s hard to run a router all the way around a table top without the wood splintering in one or more places.

That’s the way it is with our Heavenly Father. He made us, and knows everything about us. He knows our flaws, but He still calls us a “masterpiece”. He knows what we need and He knows the things that aren’t good for us.

Brad Goode at Good News Church Santa Rosa Beach has been doing a sermon series about difference makers. The first sermon talked about how we really need to grasp the fact that we are deeply loved by God. And when we live by the narrative of “from love”, it’s easier to operate “for love”.

It’s past 6:00 PM on Sunday and the flags will go back to full staff tomorrow. But it’s still hard to get over the assasination of Charlie Kirk. Obviously the person that committed that murder never grasped the fact that he is deeply loved by God.

What a different world this would be if everyone, including me, understood and lived by this narrative.

When customers come to us for a custom table, a frequently asked question is “what about chairs?”

We don’t typically make chairs, but we often send them to our friends, Cothee and Jodi Wolf, only a couple of minutes away, at American Oak and More.

We have now teamed up with the Wolfs and have some of their chair models in our showroom. These chairs are beautiful and built right, by Amish craftsmen.

The three shown are Ambrosia Maple, Walnut, and Hickory. These are three of our most popular lumber types. So if we apply General Finishes stain in your choice of color to your table, it will be easy to match the chairs.

We have recently had several table orders placed, so if you want your new custom table in time for your Thanksgiving feast, get with us soon!

We are located at 3116 Wetumpka Highway, Montgomery 36110

Warning! This video may make you dizzy.

This is two pedestal tables that our customers wanted clear coated. The first one is Ambrosia Maple and the second one is Walnut. Both of the wood types have gorgeous character but are contrasting in colors.

We have samples of most types of lumber in our showroom so you can choose the one perfect for you! We will also be glad to discuss the pros and cons of each type.

Make an appointment with us and start your custom table process!

I want to thank everyone for sharing and getting the word out that we needed help in the shop! We had a lot of great responses and are looking forward to meeting the possible new employees!

As I sat out back shaping this Ambrosia Maple pedestal for a round table, I thought, “maybe I should have shared this yesterday”😳.

Woodworking can be loud, dusty, and hot at the same time! But we love our customers and will do what it takes to make their vision come true!

We delivered two dining tables and a sofa table to Coker and Northport today!

The 9’ Hickory table has our popular “Phillips” leg design and a faux 3” edge. We were able to match the stain exactly to Butler’s chairs. The modern table design fit perfectly in the beautiful remodel near Lake Lurleen.

The large Red Oak banquette table came from lumber that the Oswalts provided from a Red Oak tree taken down right outside the window of the banquette. The remaining stump is only about 30’ away! The Oswalts provided perfect measurements to allow the maximum size table, while still allowing plenty of room for people to move around the table to their seat. The 5” “French Farmhouse” legs were turned by me in the shop. This is what we love about custom builds!

We had enough Red Oak left over to build a sofa table based on a photo provided by Dawn!

We are excited to add Tuscaloosa County to our area and look forward to many more customers from there!

If we can help define your space, email us at admin@longleafwoodshop.com or call 334-233-8138. We’d love to work with you!

Reason 3…

I get asked all the time how I learned woodworking or how we do what we do.

Reason 1 is the Good Lord, and reason 2 is Sylvia Thompson.

These guys (and some others) are Reason 3. We are so blessed to have around 240 years of woodworking experience at our disposal. It’s fun (and a lot of times very entertaining) to sit around with cups of strong coffee and figure out how to make our customers’ visions come true. Woodworking is something they all love, and each one brings something special to the process.

We have been making furniture at our shop for six years. But rest assured, if you bring a project to us, we will all do what it takes to make your experience positive.

Kristen Nelson, from Prattville Pediatric Dentistry and Family Orthodontics, reached out to us, and said she wanted a unique sign for their remodel. She said they were doing a beach theme, and came to the showroom to discuss their needs. She was surprised that we made furniture, and had several pieces of art available which fit her visions.

She chose beautiful Spalted Maple for the sign, and also chose stain colors for the logo and letters. The Maple came from a rotten tree taken down off Georgia Road, in Wetumpka.

They also bought some framed Ash pieces, and a root ball, that I hated to sell! I found the root ball a few years ago while walking our beautiful bird dog, Maggie, in the woods. Maggie, 13 at the time, had become tired and laid down in a creek. I happened to look over and saw the root ball, and knew it was a unique piece. It took me four different trips to get the root ball out to my truck, but Maggie didn’t mind!

We also carved and painted a sailfish and engraved it. The desks are made of the same Maple, with an Onyx base, and grooves in the back legs to hide the wiring. The desks were totally a design by Kristen.

Thanks also to Bryan Moore at Grainwerx for his help!

We love different projects like this…and really everything we do here!

The Farleys brought us this large Pecan log from the family farm in Butler County. The log sat in the ditch in front of the shop for a month because it was too big for our tractor to pick up. It was also too large for our mill! Robert Dowd at CMT Tree Service picked the log up and carried it to Jimmy Albright who milled it. Then Ben Reeves at Blade Runner Tools dried it in his vacuum kiln.

The Farleys picked one of our several popular designs and decided on a clear topcoat to show off the character of the Pecan.

We sure love what we do and are so thankful for such great customers!

Dart and Karla Davis recently moved from Montgomery to Florida, and downsized to a smaller house. They wanted a smaller table, and Dart wanted to use lumber he and his family had stored several years ago. Dart brought me the Walnut lumber and a set of plans (he’s an architect).

I was a little intimidated with an actual set of plans from an architect, because we usually build from photos and measurements.

We love the way it turned out and they were very pleased!

You don’t have to be an architect! Bring us your plans for that very special piece!
