We’re excited to share a fantastic experience our teams recently had! Last week, staff from Capitol Hill Healthcare, McGuffey Healthcare, and Westside Terrace Healthcare participated in a two-day ICD-10 coding workshop tailored specifically for skilled nursing facilities, held at our pharmacy partner Turenne PharMedCo's beautiful facility.
ICD-10 coding may sound dry to some, but for those of us in healthcare, it’s absolutely essential to getting resident care right. Accurate, thorough coding ensures that every diagnosis, every condition, and every care plan detail is properly documented—so our residents get the care they need, and our facilities get the resources they deserve to provide it.
The two-day class was hands-on and practical. Donna Adendorff, LNHA, did a terrific job making a complex topic understandable and actionable. Our nurses, MDS coordinators, administrators, and billing team members all came away with greater confidence in applying federal guidelines in the context of skilled nursing. There was lively discussion about real-world scenarios, challenging case studies, and the common pitfalls that can trip up even experienced coders.
Beyond simply learning codes, the training focused on why precision matters: it’s not just for reimbursement, but for telling the resident’s clinical story accurately. The better we document, the better we can plan care, share information across disciplines, and identify changing resident needs early. That leads to improved outcomes, better communication with families and healthcare partners, and ultimately, safer and more effective care.
We’re incredibly proud of our staff for committing two days to deepen their knowledge. We know how busy healthcare can be—and taking time out for education speaks volumes about our team’s dedication to continuous improvement. At Capitol Hill, we believe learning never stops. Whether it’s clinical training, leadership development, or mastering essential administrative skills, our people know that investing in themselves is investing in our residents.
Ultimately, our mission is simple: to deliver the highest quality of care to the residents who trust us with their well-being. Every class like this one is another step toward that goal. We’re excited to put this knowledge into action, refining our documentation practices, enhancing our interdisciplinary teamwork, and staying current with the ever-evolving world of healthcare regulation and best practice.
If you see our staff around the building with new binders or sharing new ideas—this is why! We’re grateful for their commitment, and for all the partners who help us learn and grow.
Here’s to always getting better, together!
